Back to School
8.25.2014

Happy Monday! I graduated from college a little over a year ago, but now that I work for a school district (and my hubby does too), our lives are both back on a school year calendar. I think from being in school virtually my entire life so far, I'm engrained to think of years on a school year basis rather than a calendar year basis! All of that being said...

I love the excitement of the back to school season! I always looked forward to my new college classes, and now working in education, it's absolutely amazing to see how excited all of the students are! And in true form, I love the style component of it all too... It's an exciting time of year style-wise with that summer-to-fall transition approaching, and I always love the little 'extras' too like planners, coffee mugs and desk accessories.

patterned tote | leather-band watch | floral phone case
gold-foil notebooks | fun coffee mug | portable phone charger
lucite file holder | polka dot agenda | work it print
camo flats | wool panama hat

- A large, chic tote is essential for class! I carried a Vera Bradley one in college -

- I found a watch to be so handy (and an easy-cute accessory) throughout school -

- I love to switch out my phone case a couple of times a year & I'm eyeing this one -

- Even post-graduation, I like to carry a smaller notebook with me everywhere -

- A cute travel mug, water bottle or tumbler is perfect for staying hydrated all day -

- I wish I had owned this portable charger in college! -

- The older I get, the more papers I seem to accumulate, so I like storing mine in a very similar lucite file holder from Target (recent in-store find) -

- I'm old school and love using a physical planner. I've had a Kate Spade agenda on my wish list for ages - are they worth it?? -

- I love to have cute + inspirational prints hung and placed around my desk area -

- Ballet flats & loafers are your best friend for looking cute in comfort while walking around campus -

- I'm dying to own a wool hat this fall, and this one is perfect for those low messy bun days -

Thanks for reading! I hope you're enjoying the back to school season as well :)

Honeymoon Wish List + Nordstrom Sale
7.18.2014

Sandals (run small - size up 1/2 size) | Lip Gloss | Swing Dress
Bracelets: Lily and Laura (handmade by women in Nepal - found here & here online, purchased locally at Staxx & 5 Pound Apparel)

My wish list and shopping purchases this month have all been wedding or honeymoon related! We're spending most of our honeymoon in NYC, so I've been buying lots of fun things to wear there that I might not normally wear in a small town in Missouri ;) I can't wait to share all of my outfits with you from my trip, but they'll include the lace romper above, that amazing swing dress, the striped cami, crop tops with skater skirts and high-waisted shorts, and lots of sandals and cross body bags. I wanted fun, cute things that were also functional for hot weather and lots of walking around the city (cannot wait to explore). In additional the adorable studded sandals above, I also bought these crazy comfy gladiator sandals that are super on sale right now. To top off my outfits I'll add low key extras like my bundles of Lily and Laura beaded bracelets (perfect for layering with other things) and an easier-than-lipstick tinted gloss.

-------

I also wanted to share that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale kicked off to the public today! This is Nordstrom's biggest sale of the year where they place new fall and pre-fall merch on crazy discount. I've shared my favorites from the sale below, and you'll notice that many of them are higher-ticket items that I normally share on my [poor girl] blog. However, this sale is a good time to buy quality investment pieces you've been eying for awhile (for me, probably some black riding boots).

Summer Shoes
6.25.2014

Hello friends! I am [hopefully] back to blogging if life settles down a bit. We closed on our house last Friday, and have been working non-stop on it after work every day! There aren't any huge remodeling needs, but new paint, carpet and floors were a must. We are also re-framing the master bath, and a kitchen makeover will slowly be taking place over the next year.

That being said, painting and ripping up old light blue, patterned carpet is about as un-glamorous as you can get. Outfit pictures have definitely not been in the equation these past several days, but I'll be working on some posts this week :) For now, I'm sharing some of my favorite summer shoe finds! It seems like every few years I reach a point where I need several new pairs of shoes at once, and this is one of those years! With my honeymoon to NYC coming up in just over a month, I'm really on the lookout for chic sandals that will be comfortable for walking. I've been scouring my favorite online shops for summer shoe trends, and many of my favorites are below!

What's your favorite shoe trend this summer? Have you found any amazing flat sandals I should check out??

Casual Stripes
6.16.2014

Top: J. Crew Factory (on sale!) | Jeans: Forever 21
Flats: Go Jane | Bag: The Limited
Watch: Fossil | Tassel Bracelet: Cathryn Ann Designs | Pink Beaded Bracelet: Lily & Laura

Hello! I can't tell you how excited I am to be posting an outfit. I know it's been a couple of weeks and I feel terrible about it. This is one of my new favorite outfits though, so I'm excited to share! With a limited budget this summer I'm trying to buy tops that go with a lot of things, and this J. Crew Factory blouse is a perfect example! I've worn it a few times like above, but it's great with anything from denim or colorful chino shorts to being tucked into a pencil skirt for work.

A little life update:
- I'm starting my 3rd week at my new job, and I'm absolutely loving it!
- If everything goes smoothly, we should close on our house 1 week from today (knocking on wood)!
- Wedding planning is going so well and I can't believe we're just 5 1/2 weeks out! My first bridal shower is this Saturday :)

I hope your week is off to a great start. Thanks for reading!

Love Tee
6.02.2014

Tee: J. Crew Factory (love this one too) | Jeans: Gap (similar)
Flats: Go Jane | Bag: The Limited
Necklace: Etsy (similar) (real J. Crew one here) | Watch: Fossil | Gold bracelets: old F21
Pink bracelet: Lily and Laura (Staxx Boutique buy in Springfield | great online selection here)

I hope your Monday is off to a great start! Last weekend on Memorial Day Trey and I got to go to the outlet mall at Lake of the Ozarks (Missouri girls you know what I'm talking about...it's great), and I did quite a bit of shopping for my new job! I had great intentions of only buying things I could wear to work, but I couldn't resist this little 'Love' tee at J. Crew Factory. Oh, and did I mention everything in the store was 50% off + an additional 10% off?! Yeah, I kind of went to town.

I love dressing up a graphic tee with jewelry (in this case my statement necklace), shoes, and sometimes a blazer! They're so fun to play around with.

Dressed Up Sweatshirt
3.25.2014

Sweatshirt: Forever 21 (similar here and here) | Skirt: Francesca's (similar)
Heels: Target (similar here and here) | Bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction
Necklace: J. Crew Factory (J. Crew version here or cheaper version here)

I've had this outfit in mind for quite some time, but we're finally starting to get the right kind of weather here to wear something like this! Living in a smaller Missouri city doesn't exactly give me tons of opportunities to dress up, so I love the idea of mixing dressy and casual items together. Cue this little sweatshirt (which I've owned for years and years)! The shorter length works great with a high-waisted skirt, and the basic design and color make it a great palette to play up with jewelry and other accessories.

In case you missed it, yesterday's post was all about skater skirts and dresses! I linked up some of my favorite shopping finds so far, and pulled out a few of my own favorite skater skirt/dress looks from last year.

March Remix: Little Black T-Shirt {2}
3.12.2014

T-shirt: Target (I went up a size) | Skirt: boutique find (similar here and here)
Heels: Steve Madden (similar here and here) | Purse: Tobi (similar here + more below)
Necklace: J. Crew Factory (J. Crew version here)

Hello all! This is my second remix look of the month styling my little black t-shirt (check out the first look here). Besides the obvious ways to wear a t-shirt, I wanted to take it up a notch and dress up my basic black tee a few different ways to show what a versatile piece it can be! In the spring and summer I love throwing on a t-shirt with a skirt and sandals for an easy, but cute outfit. It's easy to dress up too by simply adding some heels, lipstick and a dressier bag!

March Remix: Little Black T-Shirt {1}
3.07.2014

T-shirt: Target (I went up a size to get a longer, relaxed fit) | Blazer: Forever 21 (old, similar here and here)
Jeans: Forever 21 (similar here and here) | Heels: Steve Madden (similar here and here)
Bag: The Limited | Watch: Fossil
Necklace: J. Crew Factory (J. Crew version here)

Hello and Happy Friday!
I'm kicking off a new remix series today and I'm really excited about this one. I'm going back to basics this month and will be styling my little black t-shirt 3 different ways. We all know the basic ways to wear a t-shirt (with shorts, boyfriend jeans, under a sweater, etc.), but I'm going to take mine to the next level and dress it up!

For today's look I went for a bit of simple sophistication and a put-together look! To me, this outfit brings day-to-night to mind because it can totally work for a casual office and dinner out. I bought this blazer at Forever 21 3 or 4 years ago, but it's continued to be a great staple piece! Blush pink is so "in" this spring, and there really are so many different ways to wear a cropped blazer. I'm also debuting my new purse for this spring and summer (and maybe longer)! I scored it on major sale from The Limited and I'm absolutely obsessed. The quality is great, and I love the classic, chic shape and versatile color.

Cheers to the weekend!

fancy flannel
11.07.2013

Shirt: PacSun (similar here and here + more below) | Skirt: Francesca's (similar)
Heels: Target (sold out | similar) | Necklace: J. Crew Factory | Bracelet: vintage

I always love an unexpected pairing, so dressing up this flannel was such a fun outfit to style! Flannels have typically always been associated with more of a grunge type of style...but I've noticed in the last couple of years that they're being styled more and more as sophisticated and even preppy. Love it!

October Remix: Chambray Shirt {3 + recap}
10.28.2013

Shirt: Forever 21 (similar herehere and here) | Jeans: Forever 21
Heels: Steve Madden | Bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction - gift from a friend
Necklace: J. Crew Factory (on sale!)| Bracelet: vintage | Lipstick: Revlon

Somehow another month has already gone by, which means it's time for me to wrap up my October Remix series. This month I styled my trusty chambray shirt 3 different ways! Some months I have trouble finding 3 relatively unique ways to wear something, but this month was just the opposite. I had so many more ideas of how to wear this shirt! Needless to say, I will probably be wearing it many more times on here in the coming months (hope you're not sick of chambray yet haha).

Now for a little recap! Here are the 3 ways I styled my chambray shirt this month:

Fashion Week Favorites
9.17.2013

I don't know if I've ever talked about it on here before, but I originally fell in love with the fashion industry at age 15 by looking through every single runway collection in complete awe. Before there was Pinterest, I would create these huge photo albums on my computer to save and organize different collections and trends. Personal style blogging is a very different side of fashion and one that I love, but I realized that in blogging I can also share my love of runway collections.

This collection of my favorite looks is just from New York Fashion Week, and I have not had the chance to look through every collection yet (I wish I had that kind of time!). However, it still took me SO long to narrow it down to these collections and then to these photos/runway looks!

1.
J. Crew
J. Crew was one of my top 2 collections this past week! I loved the mix of soft neutrals, interesting textures, bright colors and prints, and of course the immaculate details.

 2.
Kaufmanfranco
To be honest, I'm fairly unfamiliar with this label, but it definitely caught my attention. The collection as a whole was a mix of freshness and glamour. Trends to takeaway: bright whites, vibrant oranges, and a bit of metallic.

3.
Michael Kors
Michael Kors is pretty much a given for any runway list of mine. Season after season he creates wearable glamour. I loved the seamless mixture of white, prints and leather in this collection.

4.
Rebecca Minkoff
I absolutely love everything Rebecca Minkoff. She pulls off Bohemian to perfection and creates it-girl attire. Trends to take away: white and mint paired with bright accent colors, and boho prints and embroidery.

5.
Rachel Zoe
You all probably already know how much I love Rachel Zoe. I was a die-hard Rachel Zoe Project viewer, and she remains one of my greatest style inspirations. Her collection was sort of safari-glam, and I loved every moment of it. Notes to take for next spring: crisp whites, crop tops, and embellished details.

   6.
Tory Burch
Tory Burch was my other top 2 collection. Everything about it was SO spot-on for spring. I honestly want it all... Trends I'll be wearing next spring: green and orange pastels, chic prints, feminine silhouettes, pointed flats and embellished sandals.

View the full collection at Style.com

There were so many incredible collections that I didn't have room to include (because this is already too long). Ralph Lauren (those neon shift dresses - ah!), DVF, Oscar de la Renta... The list goes on and on. AND, I can't wait to continue watching as all of the other fashion weeks takes place! My style inspiration is at an all-time high right now and I love that feeling.

What were some of your favorite collections and trends that you spotted??

Jacy
