How to Break Out of a Bad Mood
9.21.2018

How to wear a linen dress in the fall

Sometimes I find myself in a straight up bad mood and I HATE feeling that way. Generally I think (and hope) I'm a pretty agreeable, cheerful person, but sometimes stress wears on me or PMS kicks my butt. Obviously no one wants to be around me when I'm grouchy, and I highly dislike myself for it too, so I try to break out of a bad mood as quickly as possible! Here are some tips I swear by:

Set Aside a Day or at Least an Evening for Yourself

With my busy schedule and ongoing guilt about downtime this is hard for me to do, but sometimes it’s just essential. Beyond sleep, our bodies and minds need time to simply rest. To just "be." A little self care and relaxation go a long way! If I’m having an anxiety-ridden day or week, I’ll try to set aside an evening where I don’t open my laptop and simply eat dinner, read or watch TV, put on a face mask, and just rest.

Schedule a Workout
When I’m grumpy, anxious or tired the last thing I want to do is workout. I usually want to curl up on my couch under a blanket and binge-watch TV. And while that’s definitely okay and even healthy to do sometimes (see above), most of the time I know I would be better off doing a workout first. Almost always once I’m working out the endorphins and sense of accomplishment kick in, and I feel SO much better about myself.

Don’t Hold it in

I’m definitely guilty of bottling up my stress and emotions because I don’t want to burden anyone...but then that can end up in an anxiety attack or tears later on. Not the best way to go about things! Sometimes we do need a little bit of outside encouragement or to just talk things out. This is when I talk to Trey or call my friend Jo or my mom.

Soak up Some Vitamin D and Fresh Air
Sometimes a sunny day can completely turn my week around, and I thrive off of Vitamin D (while also protecting my skin). Sometimes a quick walk or just sitting outside is super calming and positive. Often when I get super stressed at work I take a walk down the block and back while doing some deep breathing, and it helps me so much! Take a few minutes to let the sun warm your skin and take some deep breaths of fresh air, all while getting off of your phone for a bit!

Listen to Music or Podcast
Sometimes my “relax” playlist or a funny podcast episode are just the distractions I need to break out of a bad mood. Or heck, sometimes I need to blast some rap music through the house and dance like an idiot! Whatever it takes!

Eat Some Mood-Boosting Foods
Food can absolutely affect our moods and how we feel! Some amazing mood-boosting foods include nuts, fish, berries, leafy greens and colorful vegetables, and my favorite...dark chocolate!

January Loves
1.31.2018

Love, Lenore's January Loves

My monthly favorites posts are back! I needed a little break to rethink formatting and to get inspired again. What used to be a last-minute throw-together post will now be one of my favorites I think. I like a lot of different types of things, so it’s nice to have a little home for randomness on my blog.

Completely unnecessary but amazing purchase:
* These pink Anthropologie glasses that I’ve wanted for ages. We have more than enough cups, but every time I use these glasses they make me happy, and that’s what counts right?

All gold everything:
* Mini hoop set. One of my best super affordable purchases in a minute because I wear these nearly every day. Oh so chic!
* Perfect layering necklaces. I love the layered necklace look, but sometimes it takes planning and strategic purchases. I’m so happy I picked up this necklace and this necklaces over the holidays. I wear them so frequently both on their own and layered.

Beauty + Health finds:
* The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer. I ordered this primer on a whim, and have really, really loved it so far. It smooths out my skin, keeps my oily self matte all day, and is only $4.90. Enough said.
* Dove Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo. My friend Jo talked me into straying from my staple dry shampoo to try this one, and I’m so glad I did. It truly refreshes my roots, doesn’t leave a white residue, and has a pleasant smell without being overpowering.
* Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation. Estee Lauder Double Wear is still bae, but it can sometimes be a bit too dry for me in the winter months (creasing is not cute). Enter this lovely whipped formula. I’ve been mixing it 50/50 with my Double Wear to create the perfect winter formula!
* Olly Undeniable Beauty Vitamins. These are my favorite hair, skin and nail vitamins because they truly work! My hair has never grown quickly in my life, but I have very noticeable hair growth when I take these consistently. They’re a bit more than I’d like to pay in an ideal world, but if you’re trying to grow your hair out, I can’t recommend these enough.

Apps:
* Hopper. You can use this app to track all kinds of different flights, and it will alert you when the prices drop. I booked cheap flights to San Diego for Trey and I thanks to a handy push notification from this app, so it’s kind of my favorite thing right now.
* FriendO. This is a fun little game that I’ve been playing back and forth with my friend Jo. Basically you answer random questions about yourself and your friend guesses your answer.

Things I’m excited about:
* Kristin Ess’ new products at Target. I’ve tried a few of her products and love them, so I’m excited that she’s released even more. Also, her packaging/branding makes my heart sing!

Unique fashion find:
* Floral + striped top from Forever 21. This quirky little top drew me in immediately! The print, the little bell sleeves, the price - love. I wore it in this Instagram post, but you'll definitely be seeing more of it.

Binge-watch sesh:
* Stranger Things Season 2. Trey and I recently binge-watched it and loved every second! I thought it was even better than the first season, and I *loved* the character development. Honestly, is there a show with better characters? I can't get enough of them.

Cozy for the Snow
1.14.2016

Sweater: Nordstrom (40% off) | Leggings: Zella (the best!)
Boots: Hunter | Mittens: Anthropologie (10 color options + extra 40% off sale price w/ code XTRA40)
Beanie: F21 (similar) | Socks: H&M

Over the weekend we had the most beautiful snowfall (more on that in this post), so we got to pull out all of our favorite warm clothes and accessories. I just got this sweater from Nordstrom for 40% off and it's amazing! It's soft and I love that it's long and slimming (perfect to wear with leggings!). I also got these mittens because I didn't have any cute gloves, and I'm a bit obsessed. They are fleece-lined so they're so comfy-cozy, plus the colors are adorable! They come in 9 other colors as well and you can get an extra 40% off the sale price with the code XTRA40...

Last but not least, I can't even tell you how glad I am that I finally bought Hunter boots. I put off purchasing them for years because they're pretty pricey, but I now wear mine all the time. It's reassuring to know that I can still look cute without ruining my other shoes. They're not necessarily made for snow since they're not lined, but I just layered a couple of pairs of thick, tall socks and was fine. If you're going to be in extreme cold or out in the snow for hours on end then you'll want some snow boots, but for where we live and our lifestyle I don't really run into those situations, so the Hunters work great!

I hope you're having a great week! I've been working some long hours this week, so I'm really looking forward to the 3-day weekend! xo

Gifts for your Bestie {Under $35}
11.18.2014

I've so been looking forward to my Holiday Gift Guide Series, and what better way to kick it off than with fun, fabulous gifts for your friends?? I'm someone who absolutely loves picking out gifts for people, and my best friends are so fun to shop for. Over the past couple of years I've started putting together gifts made up of several smaller things so that I'm able to give them a bit more! Plus, I think it's fun to open a few different things anyway.

These adorable gifts are all under $35 (and start at just $5), so you can easily mix and match without breaking the bank! Christmas is just 5 weeks away, so get your shopping on ladies! :)

Hello! Aren't you glad this is a shorter work week? I had a fun 3-day weekend, filled with family time, shopping (hello outlet mall MDW sales), wedding invites, and even a little time to catch up on TV shows.

Later this week I will be starting my new job + semi-moving an hour away (clothes-only at this point), and with rain in the forecast all. week. long. I can't promise many outfit posts in the next couple of weeks. But please know, I'll be doing my best to post consistently, and to bring you the best content I can! In the meantime, please pardon my Instagram post today ;) If you know me or have followed me for awhile (follow along here), you know how truly obsessed I am with Instagram though. Seriously, it's the best.

august photo diary.
9.01.2013

If I were to sum up my style in the month of August I would describe it as lots of white and denim paired with bright + colorful accents! The BCBGeneration heels in that last photo were an amazing sale find at Dillards this month, and they're still online priced at $45 (originally $129)!

My Instagram username is @jacylenore if you'd like to follow along! There are lots more recent pics I didn't have room to post here :)
