Statement
2.25.2015

Blazer: H&M (sold out in cream, so here is a similar option) | Oversized Tee: Target (similar) | Pants: H&M (wear them ALL the time) | Necklace: BaubleBar | Heels: Prabal Gurung for Target (similar under $50, more here, here) | Bag: H&M (similar here, here) | Watch: Fossil | Bracelets: Margaret Elizabeth, From Dylan (c/o) | Lip color: NARS 'Damned' | Nail color: Essie 'Chinchilly'

I've wanted this statement necklace since the first time I saw it! I am really not a statement necklace girl because I don't really consider myself too preppy or the super sparkly type, but this one is so different and it's both pretty and edgy at the same time. I wore this outfit yesterday for a really busy work day filled with events, but love that this necklace has a cool, edgy vibe that will completely work with more casual outfits as well. BaubleBar (one of my absolutely favorite places to buy jewelry) also has a non-pearl version that comes in different colors, and a similar, smaller version as well!

On a totally different note... Is anyone else kind of getting to the meltdown point about winter this year?? I am usually not one to be seasonally depressed, but we have had an extra cold winter for Missouri and I feel like I'm about to go crazy! The week forecast for here is basically really cold with either snow or rain depending on the day, so bare with me if outfit posts aren't exactly plentiful ;) Get me some somewhere warm and sunny ASAP!

New Extras
2.24.2015

Sweater: Target (similar sweater that I'm obsessed with!) | Faux Fur Snood: Asos (similar here, here, here) | Jeans: H&M | Heels: H&M (so comfy, but size down 1 whole size!) | Earrings: BaubleBar (on sale!) | Watch: Fossil | Bracelet: Margaret Elizabeth | Bag: H&M (similar here, here) | Sunnies: Amazon | Lip color: NARS 'Damned'

Today I'm remixing a few pieces I've had for a little while now with a couple of fun new accessories that absolutely loving! These earrings just came in the mail over the weekend, and I'm smitten. They're so pretty, and are amazing quality for the sale price (and not too heavy). These heels are the bomb.com also. They're really comfortable and edgy, and the price can't really be beat. One thing I learned about H&M shoes though is that they run really big! I ordered two pairs in my regular 9.5 (yes, I have really long feet! haha), and they were both so big. I exchanged them for an 8.5 (size 40 European there) and both fit perfectly! Just FIY :)

On a totally different note, I didn't get a chance to talk about the Oscars in yesterday's post! There were really only a few looks I didn't like, and I thought the majority of ladies looked stunning! My best-dressed were Emma Stone, Sienna Miller, Margot Robbie, Zoe Saldana and Naomi Watts! And that performance of "Glory" ... talk about goosebumps and tears. Who were your best-dressed ladies, and favorite moments??

The Red Lip
2.23.2015

Sweater: H&M (sold out in the cream) | Scarf: Aerie (on sale!) | Hat: Prima Donna | Lips: MAC 'Ruby Woo'

The classic red lip. So chic, but so daunting. I had never owned a true red lipstick until just a couple of weeks ago when I was suddenly determined I needed one!

You all know how much I love wearing neutrals. I love that they can be classic, edgy, versatile, or whatever you need them to be. And they're my number one tip for maximizing a smaller budget and wardrobe (hello mix-and-match). Because I wear so many neutral pieces and outfits, I love that a simple red lip can serve as a pop of color.

I knew I wanted a great quality lip color that would compliment my skin tone and stay put! The thought of red lipstick smearing on your face isn't exactly a great one. I had no idea what type of red would work best on me, so I wanted an expert opinion. I've always heard how amazing MAC lipstick is, so I thought it was the perfect time to try one out and invest. I headed to the MAC counter a couple of weekends ago so that one of their makeup artists could pick out some options for me, and so that I could actually try them on, which ended up being a great decision.

I decided on Ruby Woo, which now has its own accompanying lip pencil (that I also purchased), and love it! It's vibrant but matte, and stays put so nicely.

Lip color: MAC 'Ruby Woo' | Nail color: Essie 'Blanc'

Tips for applying:
  • Exfoliate: I will usually gently exfoliate my lips using a warm, damp wash cloth. If I'm on-the-go or already in the office, I'll use this great lip exfoliation stick that's always floating in the bottom of my purse and then wipe it off with a napkin. I've also heard good things about this lip exfoliator.
  • Moisturize: I then apply a light layer of lip balm (this one is nice and light) because I like to lock in some moisture under my lipsticks and stains (especially if they're matte). If I feel like my lips are a little too balmy/slippery, I will lightly blot some of the balm off.
  • Line: I've always gotten away without using a lip liner with either lighter lipsticks or darker lipstains that I can have good control of. However, I knew with red that it was worth the extra investment to pick up a liner to keep the color neat and in place. I've also heard you can just buy a 'universal' lip liner that's nude and can work with all of your lip colors... Anyone have any experience with this?

Do you have a signature red lip? I'd love to hear what you use!

Basics
2.20.2015

^^ Anndd my actual outfit. A parka and gloves are definitely needed here right now!

Sweater: GAP (similar here, here (want!)) | Jeans: Forever 21 (old; similar here, here) | Blanket Scarf: Asos (love this one) | Hat: Prima Donna | Sneakers: Old Navy (nearly identical & on sale!) | Purse: H&M (similar here, here) | Watch: Fossil | Bracelets: Margaret Elizabeth, From Dylan c/o | Lip color: NARS 'damned' | Parka: Land's End from last year

Happy Friday! I woke up with a bad cold, so I'm so so glad it's almost the weekend so I can rest and relax. Today's post is super casual, but my concept for this outfit was to find yet another way to wear some staple basic pieces I own, like my black sweater. The takeaway is that adding a couple of cute accessories (hat + scarf in this case) can easily upgrade your look while also keeping you warm :)

Have a great weekend!

Pop of Red
2.18.2015

Sweater: H&M (on sale for $15!) | Scarf: Aerie (on sale!) | Jeans: H&M | Boots: Vince Camuto (most sizes still available here | a few sizes here & here) | Hat: Prima Donna | Bag: H&M (similar here, here) | Watch: Fossil | Nails: Essie 'Blanc' | Lips: MAC 'Ruby Woo'

We are getting all kinds of winter weather here this week, so I've been bundling up as much as possible! This blanket scarf is so cozy (and on sale), and I love the pops of color in the plaid. I've had a few questions about how I wear my blanket scarf, so I wanted to link Caitlin's tutorial, because I wear mine the same way!

Thanks for reading, and stay warm this week!

Crushing on Kendra Scott
2.17.2015

I'm so sorry I didn't have a post for you yesterday! I hate missing Monday posts because it feels like my week got off to a funky start. I'm really hoping that despite the winter weather we're getting that I will have a couple of outfit posts this week!

Today, though, I wanted to talk about a jewelry brand I'm absolutely loving (me and everyone else I think) - Kendra Scott! I've loved their designs for awhile now and own one pair of their earrings, but their new colors and pieces have me falling even more in love! I love their black, emerald and turquoise designs, but with spring on my mind I couldn't help but put together a little spring collection with fresh pastels and lots of drusy. How gorgeous is their new rose quartz color??

Do you own any Kendra Scott, and if so, what do you have? Which pieces and colors are you loving right now?

Valentine's Day Outfit
2.12.2015

Blazer: H&M | Tank: Tobi (old; similar tanks in red here & here) | Coated Denim: H&M (similar here, here (both under $50)) | Heels: Steve Madden (new version) | Bag: Tobi (old; want this one) | Earrings: Lisi Lerch | Watch: Fossil | Bracelets: Loren Hope & From Dylan | Lipstick: BareMinerals 'Be Free'

Today I have a Valentine's Day outfit option that I may very well end up wearing! I actually have a dressier outfit planned, but if it ends up being too cold or we eat somewhere a bit more relaxed I may opt for this look. Maybe it's the fact that I'm constantly wishing to be someplace warm, but I find that I'm gravitating toward more color these days, and I loved the bold pairing of red and turquoise.

I can't wait for tomorrow to get here! Trey and I both took the day off tomorrow, so we're going to head out of town for a mini getaway to relax, shop, and eat some delicious food, so I cannot wait!

Do you have any fun plans for Valentine's Day? I feel like a lot of my friends are staying in with their significant others this year, which we've done in the past and loved just as much.

Date Night Outfit
2.11.2015

Top: H&M (old; similar here, here) | Blazer: Forever 21 (similar here, here, here) | Jeans: H&M (similar) | Bag: H&M | Heels: Steve Madden (their newer version) | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban c/o Sunglass Hut | Watch: Fossil | Cuff: Loren Hope | Lip Color: NARS 'Damned'

This to me is a great example of a doable day-to-night outfit. During the day yesterday I wore this top and blazer, but tucked my blouse into black ankle trousers with a belt, and wore my classic black pumps. Then after work I simply substituted these jeans and fun strappy heels to create a fun date night/casual Valentine's Day look.

Also, how fun is this little garage mural I found in an alleyway?? You would think I was in California, not in a small town in southern Missouri haha. I've been seriously craving some warmth and sunshine, but it looks like this is as close as I'm going to get for the time being ;)

Albion Fit + Giveaway
2.10.2015

Top: Albion c/o | Leggings: Albion c/o | Tennis Shoes: Nike (available here & here) | Sports Bra: Target (similar)

Today I'm excited to have a fitness post with Albion! I've said it before and I'll say it again... Cute workout clothes are a huge motivator to me! That being said, after seeing photos of myself in workout clothing I am now really motivated haha. I've always been a pretty overall fit and active person, but the next step for me is to improve my strength and muscle tone, and I love doing toning work in comfy and stretchy pieces like these. This top is SO incredibly soft and I love the longer length that's so flattering with leggings. And these leggings... How stinkin cute, right?? I was nervous about wearing a light color and stripes (I always stick to black leggings for the slimming effect), but they're really flattering and the fold-down waist with the ruffle is such a cute detail that you don't find in most workout clothing.

Some other pieces I'm loving... This half-zip and their flattering + adorable ruched tanks (the pink and aqua are my favorite). And these, these, these and these leggings!

Some of their pretty pieces...
