Current Workout Routine + Favorite Workout Clothes

Beyond Yoga mesh leggings
my current workout routine & favorite workout clothes | Love, Lenore

Happy Friday! I'm feeling super burnt out at work these days, so to say I'm excited for the weekend is an understatement. Then I just have to get through next week and it's vacation time!

One big way that I relieve work stress (and other stress) is through working out. What used to be a chore for me has really become a part of my life and something that I look forward to for the most part! I've been working out way more consistently the past few months, and I am starting to see a big difference, which is motivating me even more!

Read on for my current workout regimen, and my favorite workout wear!

The past few months my regimen has been two spin classes/week, one yoga class/week, circuit and toning workouts at home (1-2/week), and occasionally a barre class. I've grown to absolutely love and look forward to my spin class, and now that I have cycling shoes and really know what I'm doing, I'm getting so much more out of it than I used it. What I like about spin is that it's not just cardio... It's also resistance training and it's something you can continually get better at by getting faster and by adding more resistance. My yoga instructor is incredible, and I love that her classes melt away my stress while also being a great workout. I love the relaxing aspect of yoga, but overall I like to get a workout out of my yoga classes.

I don't want to get into too much detail about my routine in this post because I'm planning to change things up a bit soon. I'm definitely a believer in changing up workouts to keep your body guessing, so I've found a couple of programs I want to try! After our vacation I'm planning to tackle Kayla Itsines' 12-week Bikini Body Guide (BBG). They're short but HARD circuit workouts that have amazing results. I did this program before our wedding and was in such good shape, so I'd like to get to that point again! At this point I'm just trying to plan out how I can work it in with my workout classes without overdoing it. I also listened to the latest episode of the Skinny Confidential Podcast, which interviewed the founder of the PVolve method (I highly recommend listening). Everything he said really resonated with the goals that I have, and I think that method would be a good way to balance out spin classes. So I may subscribe to that streaming service after I do the BBG program.

Since working out more consistently, I've actually had a difficult time keeping up with laundry and realized I didn't have enough workout clothes I loved! Of course I'm never mad to have an excuse to shop for cute workout clothes.

Most of my workout tops are from Forever 21 and H&M. These are something I don't like to spend much on and I got for the cute + lightweight factor for the most part. My favorite tops to workout in are anything cropped since I'm always wearing high-waisted leggings. My favorite sports bras are from H&M, but I also have some I like from Target and Forever 21. I don't need much support, so I go for the comfortable and cute factors. All of my leggings are either Zella or Beyond Yoga and I love both brands! My essentials for leggings are that they're super high-waisted, and that they have compression. I hate a non-compression legging, so I'm super picky on this. For shoes, I've been loving my Adidas pair, and have found that their shoes seem to have more support than Nikes.

I've been working out a lot more lately, so I've been purchasing a lot more workout clothes (I honestly needed more to keep up with laundry 😂)! Luckily, there is so much cute workout gear out there right now and I thought I would share some favorite finds with you!

I received a few pieces by Gottex Sport and I LOVE them! I've worn these leggings so many times in the past few weeks and they're so cute and flattering. A couple of other brands I'm loving... I ordered some workout leggings from Abercrombie (strange but true), and they're so cute and stay put perfectly. I also have so much workout apparel in my Shopbop cart! Here are lots more of my picks below...

Work It Out [Affordable Activewear]
1.05.2016

As cliche as it is, the new year is always a good time to reevaluate your workout goals after the holidays. Even with time off the last couple of weeks I failed majorly in the fitness department so after being lazy I'm now actually wanting to workout. I find that even something as small as a new sports bra or tank can be a good motivator though! I really don't like to spend much on my workout clothes, mainly because their primary purpose is for me to sweat in them. Plus, I'd rather save my money for shoes, purses, etc. ;)

These are some of my favorite affordable activewear finds that you didn't even know you needed. I wasn't planning to buy anything but I think I'm going to "need" a few of these...

Some of my favorites...

Forever 21 actually has surprisingly good workout apparel! My sister and I both buy from there and love their stuff (she's a college athlete who works out non-stop too). You can't go wrong with their unique tank tops for the price, plus that have really cute sports bras with interesting straps and designs. I want this marble-print sports bra!

Old Navy also makes pretty solid workout stuff. Further into spring watch out for their workout shorts - they're my favorite! I also love this 1/4 zip in the white. Bonus - they're offering 30% off their workout clothes right now with the code MORE4LESS.

Zella is a brand that Nordstrom carries, and while I haven't tried a ton of their stuff yet, I can attest that their leggings are the best and you don't have to pay Lulu Lemon prices! The 2,742 5-star reviews are absolutely accurate. I got mine for about $35 during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale but they're honestly worth every penny of the $52. I wear them throughout the week with sweaters because they're nice and thick (and so slimming - they definitely hold everything in nicely! ;), and then hang out in them at night and on the weekends. I probably need to buy some more pairs to rotate haha...

If you've tried a great new workout lately I would love to know about it!

Tank: Old Navy | Leggings: Nike (similar pair that I want!) | Pullover: Old Navy
Shoes: Nike (sizes available here & here; go down 1/2 size) | Sports Bra: Target (similar)

This is a different type of look for me to post, but I spend a lot of time in workout clothes! Usually when I get home from work I want to change into the comfiest clothes I can find + I try to workout at least 3 evenings a week. To be honest, I'm not really the type to dress up on a Saturday to go to Wal-mart either, so cute, easy workout clothes are a must for me!

As for actually working out, I'm trying to get back in the groove of it and figure out how to do it on my own. Mizzou has one of the best rec centers in the country, plus I walked across a huge campus multiple times a day, so I always stayed quite active in college. Last year I had a gym membership that included amazing classes, so those kept me motivated and in great shape. Then I got married and moved... I don't have a gym membership anymore and haven't found any classes here that I love so far, so I've been trying a lot of different workouts at home and figuring out a routine that works for me! For those of you who have to workout at home or simply prefer it (I do for the most part), I wanted to share some workouts I've been doing that are helping me tone back up and get more fit!

-Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide: If you don't follow Kayla on Instagram you definitely should. She's such a positive role model for health, and the makeovers from her plan are pretty amazing. I have her Bikini Body Guide, and the workouts are only 28 minutes, but they're pretty stinkin hard! However, they definitely work and I like that I can work hard and get in a good workout super quick. I don't 100% follow her plan because I like to mix up my workouts, but I've been doing about 2 of her workouts each week and they definitely make a big difference. [Helpful hint: Her book is actually an ebook that you download as a PDF, meaning that you can split the cost with a friend if you need to and simply email the PDF to the other person. I went in on it with a friend and it was the best $30 I've spent!]

-Tone It Up Youtube videos: I love Tone It Up workouts! Their videos are typically between 12 and 15 minutes long and span a lot of different workout types and areas to target, so they're great if you want to mix and match and really customize what you do that day. I will usually pick 2 or 3 videos and do them all in a row.

-Ballet Beautiful Classic 60 Minute Workout: This is totally the type of workout that looks and feels super easy at first but ends up totally killing you. I spent so many years dancing, that I love dance-inspired workouts. Mary Helen Bowers, the former professional ballerina who created this method, trains several Victoria's Secret Angels and her focus is to tone your muscles while making them longer and leaner (definitely my style).

All of these are 100% doable at home and require minimal equipment! I have a yoga mat and a couple of pairs of dumbbells, and I've been able to get by with those. That being said, I want to buy some more equipment soon (a kettle bell and foam roller are next on my list), but I've been able to workout very effectively with what little I have, so I promise you can too! Let me know if you have any questions about any of this :)

Albion Fit + Giveaway
2.10.2015

Top: Albion c/o | Leggings: Albion c/o | Tennis Shoes: Nike (available here & here) | Sports Bra: Target (similar)

Today I'm excited to have a fitness post with Albion! I've said it before and I'll say it again... Cute workout clothes are a huge motivator to me! That being said, after seeing photos of myself in workout clothing I am now really motivated haha. I've always been a pretty overall fit and active person, but the next step for me is to improve my strength and muscle tone, and I love doing toning work in comfy and stretchy pieces like these. This top is SO incredibly soft and I love the longer length that's so flattering with leggings. And these leggings... How stinkin cute, right?? I was nervous about wearing a light color and stripes (I always stick to black leggings for the slimming effect), but they're really flattering and the fold-down waist with the ruffle is such a cute detail that you don't find in most workout clothing.

Some other pieces I'm loving... This half-zip and their flattering + adorable ruched tanks (the pink and aqua are my favorite). And these, these, these and these leggings!

Some of their pretty pieces...

Fashionable Fitspiration
1.07.2014

I'm definitely a proponent of staying fit year-round, not just the duration of my New Years resolutions. However, I completely fell off the gym train during the past few holiday weeks and need to get my butt back in gear! Plus, with a wedding coming up in 6 months (OMG!), and engagement photos coming up in the next 2ish months, I am now feeling incredibly motivated to get in my workouts and to eat more healthily.

I've found that when I like what I'm wearing to workout in, that I'm so much more motivated and feel so much better about myself! Then, I'm worry-free and simply focus on my workout, rather feeling sloppy. I really could care less what other people think I look like at the gym, but wearing cute workout gear is a huge self-motivator for me.

Happy Workouts Ladies!

PS ~ Target, Forever 21, and Old Navy are probably my favorite places to buy workout attire (besides my ultimate favorite-Nike). They're all super affordable and change out their selection frequently. F21 makes great, lightweight tanks, and Target's sports bras are the bomb.com.
