Fall Sweater Edit
11.01.2018

The best affordable fall sweaters

It's sweater weather y'all! Like it or not, chilly days are here (at least in Missouri) and it's time to cozy up in some cute sweaters! Now, I'm pretty picky about sweaters... they have to be flattering and they can't be itchy. I can't personally vouch for most of these sweaters, but I do own a few of them (which I'll point out below), and have ordered several of these too! Looking at my closet, I would say most of my sweaters are from H&M. You definitely have to weed through the good and the bad, but year after year they have awesome ones at a steal of a price! I actually ordered a few while writing this post last night!

Also, I can't link from these some sites in the widgets below, but definitely check out some of my favorite online shops, Shop Lux, Maude Boutique, Lulu's and Zara for cute and affordable knits as well!

CREAMY NEUTRALS
Ahhh...my favorite! I could probably own 20 cream and tan sweaters and still want more versions. I just ordered this one, I've worn this one tons already, and I have last year's version of this sweater.

COLOR
I've always been a neutrals-only kind of gal, but this year color has been growing on me! I have several of these in my cart!

BLACK + GRAY
You girls know I love my black clothing! I have this sweater and this sweater and can vouch for their amazingness! I ordered this cozy gray turtleneck last night too.

PRINTS
I don't usually go for a bold sweater, but I can't get this one out of my head! Probably need to go ahead and order it! I'm also in love with all things leopard at the moment and love it in sweater form here & here.

During the Shopbop VIB Sale you can get 20% off purchases under $500 and 25% off purchases over $500 with code STOCKUP18. It's a great time to stock up on fall pieces and denim, or to splurge on something you've been eyeing. My favorite sweater of the fall (pictured above) is included too!

Below I've shared all of my favorite pieces I've ordered from Shopbop (all are staples for me!) as well as my huge wish list! Now I just need to narrow down what I'm ordering!

Five Random Thoughts this Friday

Why do short weeks feel so long??
Having a 3-day weekend was exactly what I needed in my life, but somehow this 4-day work week was not a breeze. I feel like something always goes a bit wrong on a short work week.

I cannot wait to get my hair done on Tuesday.
I go around 4 months between appointments (I'm so glad I can because it saves me money!), but I'm feeling especially ready for some fresh blonde and a big trim! My hair has actually grown A LOT for once (woohoo 🙌) so my highlights are pretty grown out and my ends are kind of thin and scraggly right now. I'm going to go back to more of a blunt chop, but hoping not to lose too much of my new length.

Why am I craving dark chocolate like a crazy person lately?
I looked up some scientific reasons (a magnesium deficiency is one possibility I found), but I swear I want some after every meal this week!

The funny trick that made these jeans photographable.
I was laughing to myself while putting this post together because of the crazy hack Bri suggested to make my jeans "fit." I'm obsessed with these jeans (the Riley High Rise), and went up a size to get a looser look in the legs. Unfortunately that has left me with an absolutely gaping waist to where the jeans won't even stay up on their own (don't worry, they'll be visiting my alterations lady next week!). So, we grabbed a bottle of lotion I had in the car and stuck it in the waistband to make the jeans "fit." I felt like a complete weirdo, but looking at the photos I guess it worked!

I'm currently obsessed with...
Do certain styles or trends ever just click with you and you find yourself adding different variations to your cart on several different sites? Me toooooo. I have so many cool statement earrings on my wish list right now, and love the options here, here and here (a dedicated earring blog post might be coming soon!). I'm also loving prints (florals and polka dots) and ruffle details. This brand is killing it in those departments right now.

What We've Been Up To, and Where We're Headed Today

I hope you guys had an amazing Christmas and Christmas Eve! We've had a busy last few days, and are now off on a quick trip to Houston! On Friday we had our annual Christmas celebration with Trey's mom, brothers, and their families and we always love that quality time hanging out with our nieces and nephew. On Saturday, Trey and I squeezed in an overnight trip to St. Louis just to have some quality time together, eat some yummy food, and go to a Mizzou basketball game. Once in awhile I talk Trey into snapping some blog pics for me (especially if we're visiting a city), and this post was one of those times 😜 On Christmas Eve we drove home through some snow and had Trey's family's Christmas, and then we spent Christmas Day with my family. It was a great weekend!

Today we left at 5am to drive down to Houston! Mizzou is playing in the Texas Bowl tomorrow and we decided to make it a family trip with my parents and sister! I've never been to Houston before, so definitely leave a comment or DM me on Instagram if you have recommendations of places to eat or things to do! We'll be coming back Thursday, so it's a super quick trip, but I'm excited to explore a new city.

This is a complete sidebar, but I finally got a Natori bra, and not only are they pretty, but they're also really comfortable for an underwire bra. I rarely wear a bra with an underwire (because why would I go through that discomfort when I have tiny boobs??), but I made an exception for this one (I got the "feathers plunge contour bra").

Also, a great sale kicks off today where you can get an extra 25% off sale items at Shopbop! Some brands I'll be checking out are Calvin Klein underwear, BB Dakota, and Free People because they all have some great sale items.

My New Glasses
11.22.2017

how to make black skinny jeans more interesting
cream bell-sleeve sweater
No, this post isn't sponsored (I wish!). I'm just really, really obsessed with my new glasses! After losing my old glasses for a few weeks, I finally had the push I needed to get new glasses after four years... I had had the same glasses since before I was married! I had never loved a pair of glasses before because none of them felt oversized or bold enough for my taste. But I'm low-key obsessed with this pair from Bonlook (a collaboration with the A Beautiful Mess sisters)! Not only were they affordable, but the quality is fantastic and they're cute enough to be a fashion accessory.  Bonlook also has some unique and frickin amazing color options! Not just your standard black and tortoise (some "rose" color frames are next on my list)...

So yeah, nothing sponsored or gifted, I just wanted to rave about my new glasses and tell you guys about Bonlook because I had such a positive experience!

As for my outfit, you may or may not recognize my sweater from this post, but it's been my most-worn sweater so far this fall! I love that it's thin enough to tuck into jeans, that it's a warmer cream color that doesn't wash me out, and that the bell sleeves make it more interesting than your average basic sweater!

Rambling About My Favorite Show, Etc.
10.16.2017

I'm catching up on Grey's Anatomy as I'm putting this post together and sobbing my eyes out. In all 13+ seasons there are probably like 4 episodes I haven't at least teared up in ðŸ™ˆ I think it's the most incredible show and I'm always so happy Trey loves it too so at least he's next to me when I'm crying. It's the best! Even though it makes me a weepy mess :)

Anyways, back on topic... here's one of my current favorite outfits that I photographed with my friend Bri this weekend!

fall outfit: bell sleeve sweater tucked into high waisted jeans
high-waisted cropped jeans
Sweater  |  Jeans (the "taylor")  |  Ankle Boots  |  Hat  |  Belt

I've been finding amazing fall pieces at Shopbop lately! I love this bell sleeve sweater. I don't usually like fitted tops and sweaters, but love that this can easily be tucked in to all of my high-waisted jeans and skirts. Speaking of high-waisted jeans, AGOLDE gets it! I can't tell you the number of "high-waisted" jeans I've tried on that don't come anywhere close on this long-torso'd girl, but AGOLDE offers a lot of jeans with 11+ inch rises! I now have two pairs of their shorts and two pairs of their jeans, so I'm thinking they're becoming my go-to denim brand.

I also wanted to share that you can get 15% off full priced items when you purchase through the Shopbop app for the first time! Just use code APP15 at checkout :)

Shopbop Sale Picks

Shopbop Sale Picks | Love, Lenore

As you guys know, Shopbop is one of my very favorite sites to shop, and a few times a year they have the most amazing sales! A new sale kicks off today and you can get 20% off orders under $500 and 25% off orders of $500 or more with the code EOTS17! This is a great chance to buy a bigger ticket item you've been eyeing, or to stock up on some cute fall pieces. I definitely have sweaters and bags on my mind right now!

Above I've shared some picks that I have my eye on, and below are some items I've purchased from Shopbop over the past year and are still in stock!

Let me know if you're shopping the sale too!

My Current Color Obsession
9.12.2017

Summer-to-Fall transition outfit
cute bell sleeve top
This week I realized how into red I am lately! This cracks me up because red used to be my least favorite color. Yep, literally at the very bottom of my list. Maybe it's the transition to fall, or the contrast against my blonder hair, but I just can't get enough these days!

I absolutely love this little bell-sleeve top (the perfect muted red 👌), and you'll never guess where it's from! It's also on sale for 15 freaking dollars right now, which I cannot wrap my mind around. Scoop it up now!

What I do for my Full Time Job

office appropirate outfit ideas - a jumpsuit

While I mention "work" on here all the time (since it's a big part of my life), and have mentioned here and there what I do, I realized that I've never really gone into detail or explained what I spend over 40 hours a week doing! This year I made the decision to share more of my life on here (even if it's simply woven into my outfit posts), and work is a huge part of my life!

While I am often overwhelmed by a full time job and two side hustles (a post about balancing all of that is coming soon!), and would be lying if I said I wouldn't love to be my own boss someday, I do like what I do and find it unique and interesting!

So, my full time gig is as the Director of Communications for the school district where we live. I'm a one-woman department, so my role in "communications" includes a wide variety of things:

building out long-term communications strategies
running the school district's social media accounts
publishing two email newsletters each week (one to staff, and one to the community/parents)
being the point of contact for all media and coordinating news stories
writing & disseminating press releases
taking, editing, and posting photos
creating video content (a new skill I'll be tackling this year!)
updating information & articles on our website
attending and reporting on school board meetings

There are other things, but those are the main roles and tasks off the top of my head! One thing I really like is that I do a wide variety of things, which helps to keep my days interesting and moving quickly. I don't have a standard task list for each day, and many days I'm out and about visiting school buildings and attending meetings and events. I also like that my job has a greater purpose - children and their futures. The more I'm able to share the positive things we're doing to impact students' lives, the more I set us up for success in both the present and future. I also work with a lot of amazing people. They're all passionate about what they do, and that's always good to be around.

Some days crazy curveballs hit (life in the PR world!), and that's always really stressful. There are also times where I have more work than what one person can do (back-to-school season is always cray), but I just have to tackle it as well as I can. I'm a stresser anyways, so there are definitely days when I'm kind of a stressed out wreck trying to juggle my to-do list or a crisis that's popped up. I often have evening commitments outside of normal work hours too, which can be draining when you don't get paid overtime and when there are a lot happening on top of each other (think end of the school year).

But, overall I really do like my job. I get to do all of the PR and communication I went to school for, and I like that there are some creative aspects sprinkled in. By working in public education I also get good benefits and am part of a good retirement program, so I'm definitely thankful for that being in my 20s. I got this job at 23 years old, which was pretty crazy at the time, but I'm thankful they took a chance on me. June marked the start of my 4th year here (how that's possible I don't even know!), and I definitely feel more comfortable and know what I'm doing quite a bit more. But I also constantly have opportunities to keep learning and improving too, which is great.

Is my job my passion in life? No. And I'm definitely no workaholic. But, I get to explore my creative interests through my side hustles, so all in all I feel pretty fulfilled right now.

And now onto my outfit! I recently bought this amazing jumpsuit (also online here) because it's daring, fashion forward and fun, but also works for the office! It can be a challenge to incorporate my personal style in my work wear, so I always jump on unique pieces like this that can be worn for work or play.

I also wanted to share that today is the last day of a great Shopbop sale where you can get an extra 20% off of most sale items with the code TREAT20. Shopbop is truly one of my favorite places to shop because they carry such a wide variety of brands and have fast + free shipping. My jumpsuit is by the brand BB Dakota, and Shopbop always has a great selection of their stuff.

Why I Love Maxi Dresses
8.21.2017

Maxi dresses are one of my very favorite things to wear. I love that I can throw on one piece of clothing and feel effortlessly styled! They're also perfect for those days when you don't want to wear anything remotely fitted (if ya know what I mean 😉).

I naturally think ahead to someday when I'm a mom, and I think maxi dresses will be high up on the game plan for me. One of my cousins has 3 little ones, yet always manages to look put-together (she doesn't wear workout clothes out and about - ever!). I've noticed she wears a lot of maxi dresses because they're comfortable and breathable, yet also stylish and put-together. So smart! Even though I'm not a mom yet, I'm still down for that strategy right now.

This Free People maxi dress caught my eye immediately. I definitely gravitate toward black floral prints, and I loved the ruching at the top, as well as the tie details (which make it customizable to your height). I wore this dress this past weekend for a 1st birthday/housewarming party, and it was perfect for the occasion (even in the heat!). I see it being a great dress to bring from summer to fall, and can't wait to style it with an oversized denim jacket.
