A Simple, Romantic Hairstyle I Love
2.28.2018

floral romper for spring
simple twist-back hairstyle
I will definitely never be Amber Fillerup in the hair department, but I am making an effort to switch up my hair styles more, rather than just wearing it down and wavy every single day. For whatever reason, I always feel a bit more glamorous and romantic with my hair pulled back on one side. It's a simple way to pull your hair back a bit, and will also show off a beautiful statement earring (which I'm so into at the moment). I used the following Privé products (love their minimal branding) + steps to get lots of shine and texture for this look:

After air drying about 50% I sprayed the Privé root amplifier at my roots as well as the Privé shine mist on the bottom half of my hair before blow drying. I usually avoid hair oils and shine sprays because I worry they'll weigh down my baby fine hair, but this one truly doesn't at all. As I've used it over the past few weeks I've been so impressed by how it makes my hair weightlessly shiny and smooth.

After curling per usual with my one-inch wand and shaking it out to create looser, messy waves, I pulled one side back in a subtle twist. I started it loosely in the front, and then added small pieces of hair as I worked backwards. I find that this helps it to stay, and just integrates the twist into your hair a bit better. Then I simply hid a few bobby pins under the rest of my hair and finished my look with the Privé finishing texture spray, which adds just the right amount of hold and texture without making your hair look dull or feel stiff.

If you would like to try any of Prive's products, use code JACY10 for 10% off of your order! This code is good through March 28, 2018.

Have you guys ever tried this simple, but elevated look? I definitely plan to style my hair like this on vacation next month whether to keep my hair out of my face or to simply elevate my look a bit for dinner!

Would you like to see more beauty posts on here? I hadn't done a hair post in a long time, but have had some requests, so I thought I would start with this!

Thank you to Privé for partnering with me on this post! I have genuinely been so impressed by their products so far. And thank you to my readers for your support via links and the occasional sponsored post that make this space possible 💛

How I Balance A Full-Time Job + 2 Side Hustles
10.13.2017

cute fall outfit
cropped sweater, denim mini skirt
I encounter two things when people find out that I work full time and have two different side hustles... People either ask how in the heck I juggle it all, or have absolutely no idea how much time goes into blogging and photography/photo editing. While the latter is definitely something I like to bring awareness to and talk about (good photos and content take a lot of work!), today I want to talk about balancing it all while still having a healthy marriage, eating healthy and working out, and having some downtime too.

PS - you can read about what I do for my full-time job here

I schedule every single day out and often plan weeks ahead. When I run home to let the dogs out and eat lunch, often times I'm taking photos for a beauty or favorites post, posting Instagram stories, and packing up clothes for a shoot and/or workout class. Evenings after work (my full time job) and weekend afternoons are spent photographing clients, or taking outfit photos. The evenings I have meetings for my full time gig definitely make certain weeks harder. I try to meal plan every weekend and buy all the groceries I need for the week. I also put workout classes on my Google calendar and treat them like appointments. At night after dinner, a workout, and shower I'm usually editing photos, writing a blog post, answering emails, and engaging on social media. Trey and I love to schedule a dinner out or a relaxed night of takeout at home, and love going to sporting events together too. We make sure we fit in together time.

Basically, time management and motivation are key! Some days I kill it, and other days are a little disastrous, but I do my best and am always trying to get better at it!

Now... I'm not hustling 100% every day. I definitely take evenings off to just de-stress and spend time with Trey. Sometimes I'm so worn out that all I want to do is put down my phone and computer and just snuggle up to watch a tv show and go to bed before 11 or 12.

Other things that help...

Trey works a lot too
Trey works full time as well (as the ISS teacher at our local high school) but also coaches football and basketball. He's not coaching as many hours as he used to, but he is definitely busy with practices until dinner most nights and when he has games they're late nights for him.

We have our own things
We make sure to spend time together every single day and love nothing more than doing things together, but we also have our own things. And I personally feel that's really healthy. For fun, Trey loves to ride trails on his bike, and play basketball and video games. I use "my time" to shoot blog posts, do photoshoots, go to workout classes, and read or catch up on blogs/social media.

I multitask constantly
If we are watching TV together, a lot of times Trey is playing a video game and I'm editing photos, putting together a blog post, or engaging with others on social media. While we definitely set aside time where we put our devices away and just hangout (dinner dates and Game of Thrones for example 😉), we are almost always multitasking. Because I have so much to do at all times, I rarely feel like I can totally veg and watch TV. Doing blog or photography work keeps me caught up and keeps me from feeling guilty that I'm even sitting in the first place.

My calendars
Between meetings and events for my full time job, photo clients, and blog collaborations, my Google calendar and planner are LIFE! I wouldn't be able to keep my life straight without them. I us a Ban.do planner and it's absolutely amazing!

Sometimes I do get really behind... I'll admit that over the past couple of months my blog posts have been a lower priority, and the current state of my inbox definitely reflects that. Lately I've been choosing sleep, and I feel really guilty about that, but I was getting so worn down and needed to average more than 5 hours of sleep a night.

My house is also a wreck [more than] half the time. I do my best to pick up a bit each night and to clean like a mad woman on the weekends, but I'll admit it's hard to keep up with everything with so much going on!

But overall, the hustle is so worth it right now! I know that we can keep pursuing our dreams when we have kids, but that it will be a lot harder. Thinking about the added expenses and adding in daycare drop-off and pickup and all of the other time is pretty overwhelming to me. I don't know how we'll fit it all in, but we'll take that road when we get there, and that will all be worth it too :) But for now, I'm focused on growing my 3 career paths, saving money and investing in our home, and most importantly, investing our marriage and getting in all the quality time with Trey that I can 💛

I hope you enjoyed today's post! I let it get a little long, and it's probably not as organized as it could be, but that's a side effect from being so busy...I'm pretty scatterbrained all the time 😜  I officially launched my photography business only a couple of months ago, but you can check out some of my photos here! Photography has really become a passion of mine and I can't wait to see where it (and my other hustles) leads me in the future.

Love you all! xx

Black Floral Dress

Spring outfit idea: long-sleeve floral dress wtih a hat and ankle boots

Dress (c/o)  |  Similar Boots  |  Hat (look for less here)
Similar Necklaces here & here  |  Bag - Zara via Poshmark (found one here)

I'm obsessed black floral prints right now (just check out yesterday's wish list post!), so it was love at first site when I saw this Band of Gypsies dress at June & Beyond Boutique! Speaking of June & Beyond... I'm so proud of my favorite small town boutique because they recently launched their retail website! They'll be adding tons of cute spring stuff in the next few weeks, so definitely check them out!

I'm so happy that we're getting an early spring here this year, but unfortunately with that comes storm season in the Midwest. We were put in a tornado warning Monday night in the middle of a crazy storm, and the tornado siren near our house started blaring sometime between 10:30 or 11pm. We threw on shoes with our PJs, grabbed the dogs, and drove like hell to Trey's grandma's basement. Once other family members arrived there were 4 scared dogs, 2 little kids, a 93-year-old grandma, and 6 other adults packed in a basement. Once we got to go back home it definitely took me a little while to fall asleep 😳

Stripe Midi
6.17.2015

Dress: c/o June & Beyond Boutique (runs small-wearing size medium | found online here)
Hat: Target | Sandals: Steve Madden via Nordstrom (40% off!) | Lips: MAC 'hot gossip'
Bracelet: Gorjana via Rocksbox (use code 'lovelenorexoxo' for a free month! similar bracelet)

There's nothing I love more than an effortless summer dress, and this is definitely one of those. I rarely wear form-fitted pieces, but the midi length of this dress is super flattering, as is the low back. I've always been obsessed with tops and dresses that show off your shoulders or your back, and my two favorite formal dresses I've ever worn (both for high school homecoming dances) were backless. So, that feature is what immediately drew me to this dress! It's also the softest, comfiest fabric you've ever felt - so win, win. Mine is from June & Beyond Boutique, where you can order over the phone, over Instagram with your Paypal email, or through the House Account app when you search 'june and beyond boutique'. They have super affordable shipping and will ship out the day you order, so I highly recommend ordering from them! :)

We've been getting rain off and on all week, but we're expected to get torrential rain from a tropical storm starting today, so that always makes it interesting when trying to shoot outfits! Sometimes blogging in combination with working full time and midwest weather is quite the adventure :)

Jacy

Summer Basics
6.08.2015

Tee: LOFT | Shorts: June & Beyond Boutique (TTS & can order over the phone/IG | similar)
Bracelets: Lily & Laura | Watch: Fossil | Lips: BareMinerals 'Fly High'

Remember how I was talking about how much I love tops with detail in my summer trends post last week? This LOFT tee is the perfect example! I love the feminine eyelet details and that they give this top a slightly dressier feel, so I can easily wear it to the office as well. I know I sound like a broken record, but a girl's gotta get her money's worth!

So this weekend my dad and Trey were supposed to play in a member/guest golf tournament at my dad's country club. Trey played with him Friday but ended up having to coach at a basketball tournament all day Saturday, so I filled in for him and played with my dad. I'd only played a handful of times since last summer, so I wasn't exactly great, but I had an absolutely blast playing with my dad and getting some special time with him! :)

Jacy

Little Black Dress
6.04.2015

Dress: June & Beyond Boutique (can order over the phone or Instagram, TTS | most similar; obsessed with these here & here)
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Heels: Steve Madden (similar here, here)
Earrings: Lisi Lerch | Bracelet: Margaret Elizabeth | Lips: MAC 'Vegas Volt'

In my opinion you can never have enough little black dresses! They're just so versatile and so fun (yes, black is 'fun' for me :)). I added small pops of color with my earrings and lipstick, but other than that kept things super minimal - just the way I like it. This dress is from my favorite boutique, June and Beyond, and you can order it over the phone or through email/Paypal! They have all sizes available and I'm wearing a size small. The wonderful thing about swing dresses and strappy dresses though is that it takes so much guess-work out of what size you'll be. I could easily have worn an XS or medium in this too because all of the straps are adjustable. I also linked to several LBDs below that I found online that are all effortless and so cute, and can of course be dressed up or down :)

Jacy

Unfortunately, these don't all show up in black in the photos, but they do all come in black if you click through! Also, half of these are under $35!
