5 Things I’ve Changed my Mind About as I’ve Gotten Older (and some of your responses, too)

This post was sponsored by Reebok as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

So naturally there are a lot of things I’ve changed my mind about as I’ve matured and learned more (some very menial like not being preppy anymore and some very serious like political stances), but I thought I would share 5 very random things that came to mind! I asked you guys on Instagram about things you’ve changed your mind on, and I loved seeing your responses! Here are a handful of my favorites…

“I am starting to slowly make the change to healthier beauty products”
“What I value in friendships has been a huge shift for me”
“Sneakers with dresses, children, bigger homes being better”
“Fully embracing my curly hair!”
“Artificial sweeteners vs. natural sweeteners...accepting the calories as better for me”
“Believing ‘authority figures’ know best (e.g. doctors, parents, bosses, etc.)”
“Christianity”
“Eating things like soy and canola oil that were once touted as healthy”
“Liking country music!”

Okay, now here are a few of mine…

Wanting a Nose Job
My first year out of college I was actually meeting with a doctor about getting rhinoplasty. Two nose breaks (one as a kid and one in college thanks to my dog Lulu) have left me with a deviated septum and somewhat stuffy nose most of the time. However, my main motivation was that I have a fairly large nose (thanks Dad!) and I also have a bit of a “beak” now thanks to the breaks. At that time of my life my nose was probably my biggest insecurity and I absolutely loathed it and couldn’t wait to have a different nose. However, over the course of that year Trey and I got engaged and decided to buy a house, so my life savings went to a down payment instead of to my nose (thank you Jesus for good timing). Nearly six years removed and I’m actually really glad I didn’t go through with it. Do I still lust after a cute, scoopy nose instead of my dad’s nose? Well, yes. But it’s my nose and I’ve grown to accept it and move on (with the help of some light contouring haha).

Will I change my mind again in the future? Who knows! But for now, I’m focusing on accepting me for “me,” and putting our money toward travel and our futures rather than aesthetics!

PS - I have nothing against plastic surgery and think you should do you!

Quality vs. Quantity of Friendships
In college and in my sorority I would witness these huge groups of girlfriends that looked SO fun. For some reason I just didn’t quite fit into them and it used to bother me. Nearly everyone was so nice, they just weren’t my best friends, you know? I wondered why I didn’t have gobs of friends.

Fast forward several years and I've learned that it's not the quantity of friends you have that matters (although if you have lots of good friends that's amazing), but the quality instead. I may only have a few friends that I keep close, but I value them so much and know they will always have my back and I will have theirs! At the end of the day I only need that small circle I trust 100%

That Sneakers and Flats are Both Stylish and Flattering
If you told 23-year-old Jacy that 27-year-old Jacy would be more into sneakers and flats than into heels my jaw would have dropped to the floor!

I used to be allll about heels. Heels to work every day, heeled sandals to dinner, heeled ankle boots to a football game. I think I wanted to make a statement everywhere I went, and I desperately wanted my legs to look longer and thinner. Now don't get me wrong, I still love and wear heels (especially ankle boots), but my love of flats and sneakers has really grown in the past year or so and I've found they can be super flattering and stylish.

Maybe it's because I've relaxed a bit as a person and may it's because I'm busier than ever, but I want a more chill, low maintenance, comfortable vibe lately while still being fashion-forward (because I will always love fashion). One of my favorite ways to get this look is by pairing a dress or skirt with a pair of sneakers. In this outfit I'm wearing my new pair of Reebok Classics (don't you love all of the old trends making a comeback??) and I love that they're crazy comfortable but also stylish. There's something to be said about a cool and classic sneaker. This pair can take me from a skirt or dress to an athleisure look in a breeze, which is exactly the ease I need these days between my job and side hustles and travel. Versatility is key! If you love the look of Reebok Classics too, be sure to check out the selection at DSW.

Wanting to Live in a Huge City
I’ve always been more of a city girl, and going into college I planned to move to LA or NYC post-college to do fashion PR. Naturally the total opposite panned out; I happened to find my soulmate in college and now we live in a large town/very small city in Missouri.

Even in our first couple years of marriage I still had that longing for big city life and we talked about moving, but the older I’m getting the less appealing it is to me. There’s something to be said for lower housing prices, little to no traffic, and being close to family. That being said, I still love the energy, the fashion, the food scene, the architecture and diversity of big cities and will always love to visit! And while I would love to live somewhere a little bigger and more cultured than we do now, I just don’t think I want to live in a huge city anymore as we get closer to starting a family. However, I’m always open to whatever the future holds and wherever we may end up!

Eating [Healthy] Fats
I used to avoid these like the plague (even though they were healthy) because they were so calorie dense, but now I try to incorporate them into multiple meals and snacks every day! My focus used to be all about eating low calorie foods, but now I know that eating nutritious, satiating foods is actually the key (you can read about my journey to healthy relationship with food here)! And, healthy fats actually keep you full (and feeling calm and steady)! I now put a clean nut butter in my smoothies, I cook my eggs in ghee, I snack on almonds and cheeses, I incorporate multiple avocados each week, and I no longer shy away from cooking with avocado and olive oils. My skin and hair look better than ever, and I feel better too.

10 Brands I'm Loving Lately
1.23.2018

styling sneakers in the winter | Love, Lenore
I thought I would do something a little different today and share some random brands and products I'm loving lately! It's easy to get in a rut of shopping the same brands and stores all the time, but I definitely want to branch out a bit this year and support more brands while spicing things up a bit!

Beyond Yoga
As I've been working out more, I realized that I really didn't own enough leggings I actually liked wearing. Enter Beyond Yoga leggings. They're v. high-waisted and completely suck you in (both musts for me), and on top of that they don't fall down while you work out. They're definitely on the pricier end, but I've been so happy with mine so far (and they have really cute designs).

The Ordinary
I recently discovered this affordable + chic skincare brand through a couple of friend and reader recommendations, and I truly couldn't believe the price points and great ingredients! I just started testing out a few products, and will definitely be sharing about them with you guys in the near future.

Natori
I typically hate underwire bras, but last month I picked up the Natori Feathers Plunge Contour Bra and it's amazing! It's so pretty, doesn't show lines under shirts, and is actually comfortable. I definitely want to try more of their bras in the future!

Dazey LA
This girl power brand has the cutest, most empowering goods! They sell original graphic tees, art prints and more (all handmade to order in LA), and I have a long wish list there!

Puma

I hadn't really thought about Puma in years, but after I ordered my sneakers from Shopbop and loved them (so comfortable and low-profile) I decided to look into Puma. Their stuff is surprisingly chic! Check out their full collection here.

Jenny's Print Shop
I recently purchased a couple of prints from Jenny's Print Shop, and already have a couple more on my list! She has a gorgeous selection, and I love that you can download them for $15-$20 each and get them printed at whatever size you need. Some of my favorites are this one, this one and this one.

Re:named
Re:named is a brand I love to keep an eye on at Shopbop! Their price points are pretty reasonable (comparable to Zara), and they always have really unique pieces. I have 3 of their pieces in my Shopbop cart at the moment!

American Eagle
If you would have asked me a few years ago, I never would have thought I'd be shopping at American Eagle again. But, you've probably noticed that I've been wearing these AE mom jeans a ton lately, and they're definitely my favorite jeans right now! They just came out in a bunch of new washes (and shorts!) and I can't wait to pick out another pair or two.

Ban.do
Several months ago I was browsing Shopbop and re-discovered Ban.do, the cutest little brand that ever was! I love the planner I have from there, and I also have some cute cups, gel pens and sticky notes. It's all so cheeky and colorful. You can check out their full site here.

Sage the Label
I have a few pieces from Sage the Label that I absolutely love, and when I was checking out their site the other day I was totally obsessed with so many items! The spring pieces they've released so far are gorgeous, and they're making me reallllyyyy ready for warmer weather to roll around (hopefully soon)!

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you found some new brands to check out! xx

Hey Baby

easy summer casual outfit: graphic tee, cutoff shorts, sneakers

I hope you all had a happy 4th! We didn't do anything too exciting - just hung out with different groups of family and friends throughout the day!

Like I mentioned in yesterday's post, I'm all about athleisure and sneakers lately! I think with it being winter I just want to be super comfy outside of the office. I've wanted these Spanx leggings for quite awhile because they're perfect for a chic athleisure look. I had seen so many good reviews and love that they have a leather look without being super shiny. Another added bonus is that they're high-waisted and basically tuck everything in in true Spanx fashion. They're a splurge but I know I'll wear these like crazy!

Another new item to point out is this little faux fur pom cap! I'm such a hat person and thought this one was so stinkin' fun! This was my first time trying anything from MinxNY, which specializes in all kinds of cozy accessories, and I love that the wool and faux fur are so wintery. You can get 25% off on their site through January 31 with the code JACY25!

I had actually planned to wear my new Quay aviators in this post (I ended up with "The Playa" in silver), but they're oversized and didn't fit well under my hat 😂 You'll definitely be seeing them on here ASAP though! I'm in love and definitely plan to buy more Quay sunnies in the future.

Weekend Casual

I'm finally back with an outfit post. Work and winter weather are kicking my butt lately! I keep trying to get back in the swing of things with blogging, but I think winter is killing all.of.my.vibes.

This past weekend Trey and I headed up to St. Louis for a concert and just a little overnight getaway. We saw The Lumineers, who we've wanted to see for years, and they were far better than we even imagined! I highly recommend seeing a show of theirs because they're one of those bands that's even better live than recorded (the rare, special ones in my opinion).

I wore this outfit Saturday for lunch, shopping, and walking around. For some reason I've been alllll about sneakers lately. I'm usually one to be borderline overdressed at all times and am usually wearing some kind of heel, but athleisure and sneakers are where it's at for me right now. This lace-up tee by new-to-me brand Glamorous is one of my new favorite staples! I love that it's cute enough to be worn on its own but is also a killer layering piece, and the fit and quality are perfect. Also, thanks to all who helped me decide on sunglasses on my Instagram story last week! I ended up keeping this black Le Specs pair (obvi) and one pair of the aviators.

Sporty Basics

I shopped my closet again for this look (see another from earlier this week here), with the only new item being my suede ball cap! I love when even one affordable accessory can spark a whole new outfit using existing wardrobe pieces.

Leather leggings, a white button-down, and cute sneakers are all wardrobe fixtures in my book, and put together they're just as comfortable as workout clothes, but look sporty-chic and fashion forward. So perfect for quickly throwing on for weekend errands! Plus a ball cap pulls your look together and hides dirty hair :) Best. Trend. Ever.

Street Style

I'm honestly not sure how to describe what makes an outfit look street style vs. not street style. It's definitely a gray area, but these photos were shot next to a street...so does that count?? ;) Really though, I think "street style" evokes a casual, effortless sense of style, and when I wear sneakers I totally feel that vibe. For this look I revamped a couple of old pieces (my cutoffs and button-down) with a few fun accessories and it made a completely fresh look. I'll always be a big believer in the power of good accessories (*insert praise hands emoji*).

In other news, it's a-l-m-o-s-t a 3-day weekend! Praise sweet baby Jesus because I need a few days off in a serious way, and I'm certain I'm not alone in that. We're going camping part of this weekend, which is pretty funny because I am definitely not the camping type. But I'm excited to spend time with family and friends so I'll just have to tough it out I guess ;)
