Why I'm Going the Natural Route
5.02.2018

Show Me Your Mumu floral romper | Love, Lenore

As some of you may know, I've been dealing with some hormone and women's health issues, and while I'm not going to dive into detail, I will share that I plan to get some tests done starting next week so I know exactly what I'm dealing with! The biggest way these issues are manifesting at this time is with hormonal, cystic acne. I know there are so much worse issues to deal with, but it's not been easy to suddenly have the worst skin of your life as you approach your late twenties! Despite eating the cleanest I've ever eaten, working out regularly, and taking good care of my skin [always!], my skin is clamoring to tell me that something is wrong.

I've been reading the book Womancode by Alisa Vitti, and let me just tell you that it's completely changing the way I think about my health as a female! She not only educates you about how your endocrine system and hormones work (what most doctors don't have time to do), but she also gives you tools to heal them naturally. It's been incredibly eye-opening so far! If you've ever encountered a female issue of any type (hormones, fertility, thyroid, etc.) then I can't recommend this book enough! I've told so many people about it already.

Anyways, I'm making a lot of changes in my life right now (diet, skincare, home products, stress relief and more) and I will document many of those topics as I get a handle on everything and start to see positive changes. But to kick things off, I thought I would share why I'm going the natural route as much as possible...

Cute floral romper for spring/summer | Love, Lenore

I want a real fix, not a quick fix.
I'm not going to lie, it's REALLY tempting to go on medication to relieve my acne. So so tempting. However, I know that wouldn't actually be fixing what's going on inside. If I'm having multiple symptoms of hormone imbalance now (even while on the pill), I know that those issues could affect my fertility down the road. We do not want to try for a baby yet, however, I would rather get everything in order now rather than waiting a few years when we're ready to start a family.

So, I'm choosing to go the natural route so that I have real healing, not the further masking of symptoms. I'm confident that I can get my body back on track through nutrition and other lifestyle changes, and though they'll take longer than a medication, I will have the peace and empowerment that I've healed my body naturally and for the long term.

I've been learning about the endocrine system and hormones.
And knowledge is power! I love learning how the body works. The more I learn, the more I want to learn. It's been fascinating to see how many things are linked to hormones! They really do power the body in many, many ways. I've learned that the vast majority of endocrine and hormonal issues can be healed and/or alleviated through your diet. There's definitely sacrifice, but I feel that my health is invaluable!

Now that I'm learning all of the natural ways to get your body realigned, I can't not try them and dive right in. Every chemical we put on our skin or in our home is an "endocrine disrupter." Meaning a lot of the skincare I've been putting on my face since age 13 to treat my acne is actually being absorbed into my body and further disrupting my hormones. Crazy, right? So, it's time to do something different!

Notes: I am not a medical professional and it's critical to do your own research! Also, I fully respect modern medicine and 100% believe in it's power and overall awesomeness. I also respect you if you've chosen to go a different route with your hormonal care or skin issues! However, I grew up in a family where nutrition and naturopath/functional medicine were often our first route in prevention and care. Now as I've really grown into myself as an adult this has become important to me too.

I appreciate you reading this post and coming on this journey with me! I'm excited for my wellness journey and to document what I learn right here on this blog! Fashion is still so important to me and I love it so much, but I want to look and feel my best when I'm sharing it with you. You guys have also asked for more wellness content (which has become a huge passion of mine), so I promise it's coming!

If I can recommend anything at this point, it's to buy yourself a copy of Womancode! xx

Whenever Brianna and I shoot photos together we always laugh and lament that we're trying to make a small Missouri town look like California...or at least somewhere a bit cooler than here. Seriously, why must everything be brown brick around here? Does anyone actually think that looks good? 🙈 When we found this stucco building, I was like, sign me up for more of that plz.

Okay, weird rant over - promise!

I've been wearing this floral top by Amuse Society waayyyy too often since I got it in the mail a couple of weeks ago because it's effortless to style and is so perfect for this time of year. I also just got my new cutoff shorts back from being altered (waist to booty ratio problems) and love them so much. They have a 4in. inseam, which is perfect if you're like me and want a littttlllleee more coverage these days (am I getting old? help). They also come in a light blue wash, but I personally loved this medium wash because it was so different from all of my other denim shorts!

I've been so excited to blog this outfit! With two of my favorite trends - a dark floral print and studded sandals - it's basically my dream ensemble 🙏 This dress is from a new-to-me brand called Re:named and they have some really gorgeous, unique pieces that are very reasonably priced (those floral joggers are calling my name). There is quite a bit on sale here, and this dress happens to be 50% off, making it only $30! I think it would be great to wear for anything from a graduation party to a concert or date night.

I also have to point out my new Isabel Marant-inspired studded sandals! I've wanted the real deal for years but they're simply out of my price range, so when I found these for under $100 I had to buy them. They're actually really comfortable, and go with just about everything. Prepare yourselves to see them on here allllll spring and summer long!

I hope you ladies had a great weekend! Mine seriously went by in the blink of an eye, but it was full of great things! My friend Brianna was in town so we got to photograph a ton of outfits, and continue our tradition of getting huge Sonic drinks + tater tots 😂

Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking...

I still chuckle to myself over that line from "The Devil Wears Prada," which is probably one of my favorite movies ever. And now I really want to watch it... 😏

Groundbreaking or not, I'm obsessed with florals more than ever thing spring. Don't you feel like they're having a huge moment?? As soon as I saw this outfit on Taylor of Little Blonde Book, I knew I wanted to find a similar blouse in my price range (I'm obsessed with the Equipment one she's wearing!). Enter this budget friendly blouse that's only $18! I honestly can't believe it's so cheap, because the cut and quality are excellent.

In the spirit of super affordable florals, I rounded up 15 spring floral pieces under $50...

I'm obsessed black floral prints right now (just check out yesterday's wish list post!), so it was love at first site when I saw this Band of Gypsies dress at June & Beyond Boutique! Speaking of June & Beyond... I'm so proud of my favorite small town boutique because they recently launched their retail website! They'll be adding tons of cute spring stuff in the next few weeks, so definitely check them out!

I'm so happy that we're getting an early spring here this year, but unfortunately with that comes storm season in the Midwest. We were put in a tornado warning Monday night in the middle of a crazy storm, and the tornado siren near our house started blaring sometime between 10:30 or 11pm. We threw on shoes with our PJs, grabbed the dogs, and drove like hell to Trey's grandma's basement. Once other family members arrived there were 4 scared dogs, 2 little kids, a 93-year-old grandma, and 6 other adults packed in a basement. Once we got to go back home it definitely took me a little while to fall asleep 😳

Happy Monday! Did you do anything fun this weekend?? Yesterday I went to the lake with some of Trey's family (he had to work) and did a bunch of tubing with my niece, and today I can barely life my arms over my head. Is that a sign I'm getting old?? #help.

I loved the print of these shorts the minute I saw them! The colors are perfect! I love that you can wear them with black, white, cream, blush, or even a brighter pink or orange. Plus that ruffle hemline is to-die-for.
