12.30.2013

Somehow 2013 is coming to a close, and as always, I like to look back on all of my outfit posts from the year to see how my style evolved and to see what my favorite outfits were in retrospect!

Here are my favorite 13 looks of 2013:

Thank you to everyone who followed along on my blogging journey in 2013! It was such an incredible year full of life milestones I will never forget.

I'm so excited to see what the future holds, and look forward to blogging and sharing my year with you in 2014!

Our Engagement Story
12.29.2013

So, I may get a bit mushy on you today. In my post on Thursday, I mentioned that Trey proposed on Christmas night, but today I wanted to dedicate a post to our engagement story!

Every Christmas, Trey and I spend Christmas Eve with his family and Christmas Day with my family. We have definitely lucked out that our families do the majority of their festivities on different days! On Christmas day, we opened presents with my family in the morning, and then spent the rest of the morning and afternoon helping with meal prep, watching basketball, and taking a lot of family photos. These two photos are from the afternoon shoot:

On Christmas evening, we enjoyed an amazing meal and then planned to relax and open the rest of our presents. Apparently, Trey's mom JoAnn, and his brother TJ and his girlfriend Hannah, were supposed to be snuck in to watch the proposal, but my dad messed up and brought them in. Trey and TJ quickly covered up the mishap and said they were stopping by to say hi on the way to a movie! Somehow I fell for this...

We all piled in my family's living room to open presents, and after the last presents were opened, Trey got down on one knee...

I immediate burst into tears and could barely concentrate on what he was saying! Fortunately it was captured in a couple of different videos, so I'll never forget what was said. I love how simple and sweet his proposal was, and that both of our families were there. It was absolutely perfect!

I already love Christmas, but this was not only the best Christmas of my life, but also the best moment of my life so far!

We're hoping to have a summer wedding, and will do engagement photos in early spring when it's a bit prettier out. I'm trying to get started on the wedding planning process now, but of course the huge decisions like date and venue are the first that have to be made! Once we get these pinned down, I can start in on more of the fun stuff like my dress, wedding colors and decor :) I will definitely be keeping all of you updated though through periodic wedding planning posts!

Thanks for letting me share my story with you! This has been such an exciting time already, and I can't wait to marry Trey!

{PS ~ so sorry for not getting around to an outfit post yesterday. It proved to be a much busier day than expected, and when it came down to it, I wanted to spend time with family instead of on my computer :) Love you all & promise to have a holiday outfit post tomorrow!}

Holiday Outfit Inspiration
12.22.2013

With so many holiday festivities taking place, it can be challenging to come up with different outfits that are perfect for each occasion without driving yourself mad! I'm in the midst of 6 straight days of Christmas parties and family celebrations, so I was in desperate need of a little inspiration to keep mixing up my looks and existing wardrobe! There were multiple occurrences (and/or meltdowns) over the weekend where I was wishing I could just buy some entirely new outfits, but with a little inspiration it's totally doable to mix & match your existing wardrobe into some fun holiday looks.

Lately I've SO been loving skirts over tights with riding boots or booties! This is the perfect way to tone down a skirt a bit, since most of us realistically don't wear fabulous heels to family shindigs. Pairing a skirt with a sweater or blouse & some glam jewelry is the perfect way to wear it for Christmas and the colder weather!

For a more casual holiday gathering, I love the idea of a cozy sweater glammed up with a fur vest & some lipstick!! It's warm and very wearable, but still fun.

The cozy aztec cardigan trend is one of my favorites right now! I love that it can take you from leggings & slippers on Christmas morning, to your family meal in the afternoon by just adding some jeans and heels!

Sweater dresses are just perfect for the holidays. They're easy to dress up or down, which is great when you're going from one party to another. I have a new one that I'm planning to pair with black tights & booties on Christmas Eve!

I love this outfit idea for a casual holiday gathering with family and/or friends! The scarf & headband add a festive touch and the overall look is my favorite - 'cozy cute.'

And finally, if you have a fancy Christmas party to attend, this look could not be a better match! Red + leopard are holiday season perfection, and the tights & booties are an adorable wintery addition.

I hope this helped get your creative juices flowing! I'll be back on Christmas Eve / Tuesday with a holiday party look from this weekend! Can't believe Christmas is so soon - EEK.

Holiday Party Look
12.19.2013

Top: Francesca's (similar here & here) | Skirt: Lola by BCBG (similar here & here)
Heels: Prabal Gurung for Target (similar here & here) | Clutch: vintage (similar)
Necklace: J. Crew Factory | Bow cuff: Forever 21 | Spike cuff: Forever 21

I love the idea of a bright pop of color in the middle of winter, especially around the holidays! This top felt so fun paired with a leather skirt, which is perfect for attending a holiday party. **Tights and a blazer or other jacket would of course make this outfit much more practical if you live in a cold area. Unfortunately I'm not sure yet if I'll have anywhere to wear this outfit this holiday season, but if I did this is what I'd wear!

Holiday Day-to-Night Look
12.17.2013

Top: Forever 21 (similar here & here) | Pants: Target (original J. Crew pair here)
Heels: Prabal Gurung for Target (similar here & here)
Necklace: Forever 21 (similar here & here) | Bow Bracelet: Forever 21

Hello! I hope your weeks are off to a less stressful start than mine is!
Fortunately the snow has been melting a lot the past couple of days, because I felt a bit silly wearing heels in the snow. I've been waiting to shoot this outfit for awhile though, because I love wearing this color during the holiday season! I work in a pretty casual office, but when we do have to dress up, I usually wear something like this. I love these fitted trousers from Target because they're just like the J. Crew Factory ones I'd had my eye on for ages, and because the fitted, cropped fit is just a little more sleek than your average dress pant! I feel like this outfit is perfect for day-to-night during the holiday season because you can wear it to work and then to a holiday party.

Christmas Wish List
12.16.2013

Riding Boots | Black & White Satchel | Inslee Design Mini Calendar & Print

Happy Monday! Can you believe we're at just over a week before Christmas?! I love that, but I'm also a bit stressed about it. I've finished most of my Christmas shopping, but now I need online orders to arrive on time and to wrap presents and to run tons of errands. Oh, and single-handedly decorate my office party (haha...ummm shoot).

At the top of my Christmas wish list this year are an oversized gold watch (pretty essential for gold arm-parties, yes?), and a new pair of black riding boots! I've also needed a new black parka, but just picked up this one on sale at Sears. The rest of this wish list is a compilation of cute items I would like, but don't by any means need! But everyone loves random little glam surprises right?

I hope you all had a great weekend and that your Christmas preparations are going well! It's truly the most wonderful time of the year :)

Moto Jacket Love
12.13.2013

Jacket: Target (last year | love these here and here) | Jeans: Forever 21
Booties: DV by Dolce Vita (available here and here) | Bag: Phillip Lim for Target
Earrings: H&M (similar) | Necklace: Brin and Bell Etsy shop | Bracelet: Lia Sophia

I wore this to work the other day, and I love this version of a moto jacket as an edgier alternative to a blazer! I scored this little number for $11 on a Target sale rack last year, but I'm loving all of the mixed media moto jackets I'm seeing this year with faux leather sleeves. Those are a perfect way to add a bit of edge to a look while still being work appropriate and also warm!

Cozy in the Snow
12.11.2013

Sweater: Target (went up 1 size) (another similar option) | Jeans: H&M
Tank: Asos | Scarf: H&M
Booties: Target (this year's version) | Purse: Phillip Lim for Target (sold out)
Bracelets: Brin and Bell, Lia Sophia | Nails: Essie 'Carry On'

So it was a balmy 8 degrees when I took these photos... Am I officially nuts? Probably.

I bought this cardigan about a month ago, but didn't want to post it until I had a burgundy scarf because that's how I envisioned the post in my head! Fortunately, H&M has the best scarves and they're super cheap. Score! I also love that these little booties are a little bit construction inspired and add a little bit of tough-cute to casual outfits!
