10 [Easy] Healthy Lifestyle Tips + Tricks
2.06.2018

10 Easy Healthy Lifestyle Tips + Tricks | Love, Lenore
Tank (c/o of Shopbop) // Leggings (c/o of Shopbop) // Water Bottle (have you ever seen someone hold a water bottle so awkwardly??)

Healthy living is always a priority for me, but with spring and a vacation coming up, it's on my mind more than ever at the moment! I thought I would share some tips and tricks that [in my opinion] are totally doable, and not too intimidating. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to leave me a comment or message me on social media, because I would love to chat more!

01 | Sneak a big handful of spinach into your smoothies and smoothie bowls. The first time I tried this I was shocked that I couldn't taste the spinach. I've never enjoyed eating spinach, so I put this off for way too long, but now it's an everyday practice for me. Breakfast isn't normally a meal where we eat a full serving of vegetables, so I love that this gets me on the right track for the day!

02 | Take a re-usable water bottle with you absolutely everywhere. I drink twice as much water as I used to because I now make it a priority to have one of my reusable water bottles with me pretty much at all times! These are my favorite water bottles + tumblers, and I love that they keep my water nice and cold. You can read more about why water is such a priority for me + the benefits I've seen from upping my daily intake here.

03 | Plan a few dinners at a time. This makes all the difference for me between a healthy week and an unhealthy week. If I'm already set up with a game plan and have all of my groceries at home, then it's simple to put together a healthy meal. No planning = unhealthy takeout for me and that can really derail a week (not that it's not fine here and there, but I can't get away with doing that every night).

04 | Use reusable shopping bags and baskets for shopping. As time goes on I'm trying to reduce how much plastic I use (waste). An easy way to do this is to use reusable shopping bags! They reduce pollution and waste, and are actually so convenient. I've started getting better about keeping some in my car so that I don't show up at the grocery store empty handed. I'm planning to order these to use instead of the plastic bags you put produce in, and I also have a large woven basket (made by women in Ghana - I purchased at a health food store) that I take to the grocery store along with my bags.

05 | Add some liquid chlorophyll to your water. Liquid chlorophyll has so many health benefits, including having many different vitamins and minerals, detoxing the body, oxygenating the blood, helping with anemia, improving the skin, and making the body more alkaline. I don't mind the taste at all, and just add a tablespoon or so into my tumbler of water once or twice a day. I use this brand, but can usually find it for a few dollars cheaper at a health food store (a bottle lasts me 2-3 months!).

06 | Grab a friend and try a new workout class. Trying a new workout not only keeps things interesting, but is also great for your body! Many of us get into ruts with our workouts, but it's so healthy to mix things up and work your muscles differently. I recently tried a Piyo class for the first time, and would love to try a boxing or kickboxing class sometime this year. As a hardcore introvert I can be bad at making plans with friends, but scheduling a workout class with someone is a great way to both socialize + be accountable for actually going.

07 | Add more fiber into your diet. I recently listened to a Skinny Confidential Him and Her Podcast episode with Tanya Zuckerbrot of the F-Factor diet, and learned soooo much about the importance of fiber! My favorite nutritionist Kelly Leveque also encourages eating more fiber. Most Americans don't eat nearly enough fiber, partially because we don't eat enough vegetables, and because many of our foods and grains have been modified so much. Fiber helps to cleanse your body, helps to control blood sugar, and helps to keep hunger hormones at bay. I plan to do a dedicated blog post soon, but one way I've been upping my fiber intake is by eating GG crackers nearly every day. They're super high in fiber, low in calories and carbs, and even though they're super bland on their own, there are so many ways you can eat them (I've pretty much replaced bread with them)! I add 1-2 tablespoons of chia seeds into my daily smoothie, and beans, berries, brussels sprouts, broccoli and pears are all high fiber foods as well.

08 | Wear SPF every single day. Now that preventing aging is on my mind more and more, I know it's time to start wearing a dedicated SPF on my face every single day (beyond what is in my foundation). I've been researching several different products, but am planning to order this one first!

09 | Swap almond milk for dairy milk. This is obviously up to personal preference, but I like that unsweetened almond milk is low in calories, doesn't raise blood sugar, and doesn't have the hormones found in dairy milk. I very much limit how much dairy I eat due to the hormones in it, and trying to keep acne at bay. So almond milk has been a great solution for me!

10 | Partner with an accountability buddy. This one doesn't cost a thing, but makes allll the difference for me! At the start of the year, my friend Jo and I decided we would text our daily food diary to one another every night! While I've definitely splurged here and there, it's really helped to hold me accountable, and has definitely reduced my mindless snacking! It's also way healthier mentally for me than counting calories, and it's nice to encourage one another!

5 Benefits I've Seen from Drinking More Water

5 Benefits I've Seen from Drinking More Water | Love, Lenore

As stupid as it sounds, drinking water is something I'm super passionate about! It's been estimated that as many as 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated, even though we're fortunate enough to have access to clean drinking water. Drinking water not only keeps your organs functioning and cleans out your body, but it also increases your metabolism and gives you more energy. In the last 6 months I've made a specific effort to drink way more water, so I thought I would share the benefits I've personally seen, as well as some of my tips for drinking more water! We've all heard the "drink half of your body weight in ounces" advice, but I personally don't feel like that's nearly enough for me, and over the past 6 months I've aimed to drink at least 100oz a day.

5 Benefits I've Seen from Drinking More Water

1 | significantly fewer headaches
Growing up and through high school and college, I got headaches all the time, including a decent amount of migraines. I figured it was just a fact of life for me. But since I've really upped my water intake, I've had very few headaches! Amazing right?? That's not to say I don't still get one from time to time, but it's like a once a month kind of thing rather than multiple times a week!

2 | plumper, more glowing skin
I'm sure you've heard the advice that drinking a ton of water is the best thing you can do for your skin, and I 100% believe it. I've definitely noticed a difference in my skin the past 6 months. It has much more of a glow, as well as more fullness!

3 | more energy
While I'm not a huge caffeine addict (I stopped drinking my daily soda back in college and rarely drink coffee), I was drinking green tea nearly every day (which, to be fair, is really good for you). However, I've noticed since upping my water intake that I rarely need a caffeine boost and have so much more energy.

4 | far less bloating
As females, and hell as humans, bloating is a part of life. But since I've upped my water intake I noticed far less of it, even during my period! Flatter tummy? Yes please!

5 | a calmer mind, and less anxiety
This was a completely unexpected benefit for me, but I started noticing the change a few months ago. I've always been a stresser and prone to anxiety. For as long as I can remember, my mind has been all over the place, I've felt anxious about nearly everything, and my heart has felt so fluttery all the time - such an icky feeling. But in the past 6 months I've noticed how much calmer I am. My mind feels calmer and clearer, and my heart doesn't race and flutter as often. I still stress quite a bit, but the anxiousness is not nearly as prevalent. I think reducing caffeine has definitely played a roll, but overall I just feel better now that I'm more hydrated - like my body and mind are working how they're supposed to. I can't tell you what a great feeling that is!

So, have I talked you into drinking more water yet?? If so, here are some of my favorite tips for drinking more water...

My Tips for Drinking More Water

1 | use a water tracking app
Once I made the decision to drink more water, I started using a tracking app, and it's helped me so much! It's easy to let hours go by without drinking anything, but the app helps keep me on track! I also like having the competition with myself to reach my goal. I use the My Water app (although there are tons of great free ones), and it allows you to set a daily goal, to enter in all different kinds of beverages, and it will send you push notification reminders to drink more water.

2 | take a tumbler with you everywhere
My sister has always taken a huge water bottle with her everywhere, and I've started doing this too. I like using a reusable tumbler because it keeps my water super ice cold (essential for me) and then I'm not wasting tons of plastic. Trey and I are obsessed with our Corcicle tumblers and canteens! I think we have 4 or 5 between us now, and I've even given some out as gifts. My 24oz white tumbler seriously comes with me everywhere! I also love that these don't make my water taste like metal. They really are the best!

3 | use a reusable straw
I've found that I drink at least twice as much liquid when I have a straw! For this reason, I use these rubber straws with my Corkcicle tumbler. They oversized, rubbery (i.e. you can chew on them haha), and best of all, reusable! I also just ordered these stainless steel straws to completely replace my use of plastic straws (more on that later though).

4 | drink it first thing in the morning
Because our bodies are working away while we sleep, and because we don't drink water throughout the night, we can actually wake up dehydrated. Crazy, right? I like to start off my mornings by immediately filling up my tumbler with ice water, and then drinking a ton of water while I go through my morning routine! This not only jumpstarts your metabolism, and gets you off to a great start toward your water goal, but will also make you feel so much better - I promise!

I hope this post has inspired you to drink more water (and less soda, coffee, etc.)! Like I said, it's something that's really important to me, and it's always one of my biggest pieces of advice to others. If you have any other benefits or tips you would like to share, I'd love to chat in the comment section below!

I also thought I would share the super comfy loungewear I'm wearing in the photos. My top is this little thermal, and it's the softest shirt ever. I love that it's oversized, and that you can wear it different ways. I need more colors! I'm also wearing sweatpants from my favorite loungewear brand, Z Supply. Their stuff is so unbelievably soft, and their sweatpants and joggers are definitely worth the money in my opinion! I have to remember not to wear these every night when I get home from work haha.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I'm so excited to share more lifestyle and health content with you this year, and have been really excited to put this post together!

24 Hours in Kansas City
1.16.2018

Last month, I got to make a quick trip up to Kansas City to visit my friend Claire (we met at summer orientation before our freshman year of college!) and we had such a blast! She runs an amazing food Instagram, @kcplates, and so we enjoyed some delicious meals and got to visit some fun spots around KC.

Kansas City is one of my favorite cities! I love the young, energetic vibe in juxtaposition with the history of the city. I know some on the coasts consider all midwest cities to be flyover territory, but KC really is a gem! I'll share what we did, as well as some other spots and activities on my list for my next visit to serve as a sort of guide if you end up there for a weekend!

24 Hours in Kansas City | Convivial ceramics
Claire and I got to go on a tour of Convivial Production, an amazing small business that makes the most beautiful ceramic pieces. Their studio is in an old building in the West Bottoms, and I love how that area is being restored. We got to learn about their entire process, and then shop some samples and seconds. I came home with 3 pieces, but have many more on my list! PS, they also have a gorgeous Instagram.

24 Hours in Kansas City | Doughnut Lounge
Since we were already in the West Bottoms, we walked around for a bit, popping into stores and splitting this crazy good doughnut from Doughnut Lounge's truck.

24 Hours in Kansas City | Lunch at Rockhill Grille
24 Hours in Kansas City | Lunch at Rockhill Grille
We grabbed a late lunch at Rockhill Grille in the Crossroads Arts District, and the decor and food were equally great! This would be a gorgeous happy hour stop.

formal dress from Lulu's
In the afternoon, instead of the usual site-seeing (I'll give some recommendations at the end of the post!) we photographed a bunch of blog content (Claire is a saint!) including this post from last month. This was photographed at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, which you must at least drive by if you're in town. It's stunning!

Anthropologie glassware
In the evening we walked around The Plaza, which is a gorgeous district with shopping and restaurants! My favorite time to visit is before Christmas, because there are Christmas lights on every building, and it's beautiful! Definitely stop in the Anthro there (glasses linked here!), as well as the Urban Outfitters, West Elm, H&M and Forever 21 (among others!).

I have no pictures to document, but we picked up Boru Ramen and at at Claire's adorable house while watching a movie! It was the perfect way to wind down after a busy day.

24 Hours in Kansas City | Monarch Coffee
The next morning we stopped into Monarch Coffee, which is a gorgeous coffee shop (super Instagram-able)! I had their chai latte and it's one of the best I've ever had.

24 Hours in Kansas City | brunch at The Oliver
24 Hours in Kansas City | brunch at The Oliver
We rounded up my quick 24-hour visit with brunch at The Oliver, which happens to be on The Plaza! We split the fried chicken bennie and the daybreaker omelette, and thoroughly enjoyed both dishes (as well as the mimosas!).

Other things to do + see + eat in KC (some I've been to, and some are on my list for next time)...

2017 Highlights
12.31.2017

You guys, thank you SO MUCH for following along this year! It's been a great one! It's truly been a pleasure to chat and connect with many of you throughout the year, and it means the world to me that you follow along and take the time to read, click links, leave comments, etc. I wanted to share this little look-back on the year, because it's been one worth celebrating for sure.

Visiting my Sister in Williamsburg, Virginia + DC with the Fam
In June we had a great visit to the east coast to visit my sister, who is a second year law student at William and Mary. We got to spend a few days in Williamsburg before heading to DC for a few days and had a great time with my family!

Nashville with Friends
In July we spent 5 or so days in Nashville with a group of friends and had an absolute blast! We rented an amazing AirBnB, went out on the town, cooked and played games together. It was a great summer trip!

A Quick Chicago Getaway with Trey
Trey and I drove up to Chicago for a one-night getaway to see J. Cole (our third J. Cole concert together!) and to explore the city! We fit in a lot in under 24 hours, but are definitely looking forward to going back and exploring more at some point.

Houston with Trey & my Fam for the Texas Bowl
We just got back from this quick trip on Thursday, and while Mizzou played poorly in the Texas Bowl and lost, we still had a great time and enjoyed seeing a new city.

And More...
In July Trey and I celebrated 3 years of being married!

Lulu turned 8 (6 of those have been with us!) and Russell turned 3 😌

Trey and I saw 4 big concerts this year: Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Chance the Rapper, and The Lumineers!

We've almost finished our master bathroom project, which was a complete gut-job. We're just waiting on trim, a couple of shelves, a door, and new towels + decor for it to be complete (don't worry, I'll do a blog post sometime in the next couple of months).

We got to visit my sister in Virginia, and she got to visit us in Missouri.

I got to go on fun visits and girls weekends with some amazing girlfriends.

I stepped out of my comfort zone a bit and blogged more lifestyle and personal content this year, which led to some amazing conversations with you guys!

I launched my photography business, which took off much quicker than I expected! I didn't plan to be so busy this fall, but it was a huge blessing, and I hope that 2018 brings me many more wonderful clients and exciting opportunities!

Most importantly, Trey's dad's cancer prognosis is looking really good now after a tough road, and he's making progress every week. We are so incredibly grateful! 💛

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Much love xoxo

Why I Love Having a Side Hustle (or Two)
10.27.2017

cute wrap dress + a jean jacket

Last week I shared about how I balance my full time job and two side hustles. To build on that, I also wanted to share why I love having a side hustle or two!

While I personally love having a couple of side hustles and multiple streams of income, I know it's not for everyone and that not everyone needs to. You may make bank at your job and/or be completely fulfilled there and/or work crazy hours. And if any of those are you, you go girl! But for me, I love having multiple gigs...and below are four reasons why...

Working in communications/pr/social media, there are definitely some creative aspects to my job, but I'm still working for "the man" and at an office Monday through Friday. So, blogging and photography have been amazing creative outlets for me, and have already opened me up to amazing opportunities and learning experiences. I have the flexibility to create as much or as little as I want, and I get to explore a taste of being my own boss.

1 | You can explore different passions and interests
How many times I have you heard someone say something along the lines of "I wish I could go back in time and major in ____/switch to _____career"? While I definitely like my full time job and can't complain one bit, I also wouldn't say it's my absolute passion in life. At the same time, I can't see myself going back to school to do something else. I absolutely adore fashion and photography, so getting to explore those interests without necessarily locking myself into one career path has been a great choice for me so far. For example, I decided back in college that I didn't want to work in the fashion industry (like I thought I did), but I still get to connect with it (regardless of where I live) through this blog!

2 | You have multiple sources of income
Being "wealthy" really isn't a goal of mine (if it happens I'm great with it though 😉), but being financially stable and getting travel are both huge goals of mine. Having multiple streams of income helps Trey and I to achieve those goals! I also like having multiple options to fall back on if something crazy happens.
I'm no big-time blogger and my photography business is still pretty new, but both of these side hustles have already been a blessing financially. I would of course love to make more money blogging and to eventually actually cover the time I put into it, but I'm also not one to shove ads, affiliate links and "huge sales" down your throat. However, what little I've made has still been exciting for me, and blogging isn't really about the money for me anyways. However, in just a few short months of doing photography professionally, it's taken off so much faster than I expected and it's already allowed us to save up way faster for house projects and future travels. I can't wait to see where photography takes me in the future!

3 | You learn more skill sets and build your resume more quickly
Sure, your resume will grow and improve with each job that you have and with the more responsibilities you take on there, but I feel like I'm growing my resume at double the pace by having side hustles. I've learned completely new skill sets, and significantly improved ones I already had. Not only do I have more to put on my resume, but I truly feel like a well-rounded professional and am confident in many different skills that I have.

4 | You get to dabble in being your own boss
I am absolutely not a risk-taker. The thought of quitting my steady job (with great benefits and retirement) is terrifying to me, but at the same time I do dream of being my own boss and maybe working from home one day. While I'm nowhere near ready to make that leap financially at this time, at least I'm developing side hustles that could help me achieve that dream and/or lead to other opportunities in the future... I also get to have 100% creative control over my own ventures, which is extremely difficult at times, but also extremely satisfying at the end of the day.

Do any of you have side hustles beyond your full-time gig? What benefits have you seen? I'd love to chat!

Thanks for reading, and have an amazing weekend! xx

European Wine Tasting with Friends
10.19.2017

wine & everything fine | wine tasting with Vinebox
My friend Bri was in town this past weekend, and we had the best time together! Photographing outfits, at-home wine tasting and yummy snacks, making dinner for our guys, and then obsessively editing photos for hours on the floor while the boys watched baseball and football (we even pulled an extra TV into the living room for the occasion 😂).

Did you catch where I mentioned at-home wine tasting?? It was glorious.

Charcuterie board + wine tasting
Vinebox - European wine by the glass
Tasting European wines at home
Cheers!
Trey and I absolutely love trying new wines together, and learning about them as well, so I was so excited to partner with Vinebox for this post. Once it was planned for Bri and Matt to hangout with us on Saturday, I knew it would be fun to try some new wines all together and to snack on some charcuterie board goodness. We don't entertain super often, so I was jusstttt a bit excited.

Vinebox is an amazing subscription service that sends you three incredible glasses of wine from small European vineyards each month. You can even take a quiz to help determine your wine preferences (anyone else obsessed with little quizzes??). These are high-end, uncommon European wines that you get to try while cozy on the couch or on a picnic no matter where you live. For me it's a little taste of Europe all the way in Small Town, Missouri. Pretty dreamy, yes?

We were all big fans of the packaging, and with the little cards that accompany each glass of wine. Each card has a witty quote, information about the grapes used, the flavor profiles of the wine, what to pair it with, and more. My favorite descriptor? "Fruit forward AF" describing the Nero D'Avola from a vineyard in Sicily.

Also, you know I love some good branding, and Vinebox has nailed that. Their website and packaging are so chic! I'm a fan on all fronts.

(pillows & curtains are from Target, couch is from Macy's, and our coffee table is from Amazon)

We had so much fun sampling different wines and learning about where they came from, and there wasn't a wine we didn't love.

Vinebox is fun to enjoy on your own, or with your s/o or wine-loving best friend. I also think it would be a lovely and unconventional birthday, anniversary or Christmas gift! Please let me know what you think if you try it out! xx

Thank you so much to Vinebox for partnering on this post. I truly enjoy this subscription service and appreciate your support of Love, Lenore and the brands I choose to partner with from time to time. xx

September Favorites

Fall Trend
Captain's caps/baker boy hats
It seems like every single style blogger has jumped on this bandwagon (kind of annoying, I'll admit), but I'm definitely a hat girl and I really do love this trend! I'm wearing this one in the photo above (hard to tell in the pic, but it's burgundy) and just ordered this one in black. Below are a handful of my current favorites:

Refreshing Beauty Products
It's always weirded me out to put an oil on my body, but this one has been a game-changer for me. Not only is the smell so light and pleasant, but this is super lightweight yet moisturizing. I don't feel greasy at all - my skin just feels nourished. You can get 30% off an Advanced Clinicals Amazon order with the code LENORE30!
This is such a refreshing toner and the packaging is on point! I love using it at night after cleansing to remove any stubborn makeup and grime from the day.
I've used this for a couple of years to refresh my skin. The smell is heavenly, and I find that this helps to make my makeup more glowy, and to refresh my skin when I'm feeling and/or looking tired.
