Unfortunate Blog Hiatus / When in San Francisco...
6.30.2015

Top (on sale + extra 60% off) | Jeans | Similar Hat | Bag (similar in blush) | Sunnies | Bracelet

Yesterday was a pretty up-and-down day. We arrived in San Francisco yesterday morning and spent the day exploring the city and just taking it in. We drove and then hiked up to an incredible lookout point (where the above photo was taken), and it was spectacular. It was so high up that the view of the bridge and city, and also hills and ocean on the other side, was pretty mind-blowing (check out my snapchat for some photos and videos - username: jacylenore)!

Unfortunately in the evening our car was broken into and we had a lot stolen. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the car was unharmed other than a bashed window, but Trey and I lost several thousand dollars of stuff. Including my camera and laptop, lots of clothes and accessories, and other electronics. Why am I sharing this? Because it will probably change things on the blog for awhile, and because I hope the lessons we learned will spare one of you from this situation someday. Here's what we're learning through this situation and what I wanted to share with you...

  • Don't leave anything in your car in a big city, especially with out-of-state plates. We didn't have any items blatantly laying out, but you could see that there were bags in the car by looking in the windows. We're staying outside of the city and didn't want to drive out to the hotel and then drive back in for dinner. We were so tired and distracted that we very stupidly were not thinking about the risk and how much of a target we were. I'm usually an extremely cautious person safety-wise, but in Missouri you can be so trusting and careless of what's in your car. All my girls out there - especially Midwest girls - you can never be too cautious!
  • You have to focus on the positives. No one was hurt, the car wasn't stolen, and many things were not taken. It truly could have been so much worse. A couple of positives... We are going shopping today! Truly out of necessity in this situation, but shopping nonetheless haha. And, hopefully through insurance I will get a new laptop, which I desperately needed anyway. Ultimately, we're on vacation in California, which is pretty great.
  • At the end of the day it's just stuff! Yes, I cried. Multiple times. And I feel so shaken up still. But, material possessions are so meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Everything except photos and documents can be replaced. When Trey and I finally got in bed late last night we talked about how thankful we were for our safety and that we have each other to go through hard times with.

Since I don't have a laptop or camera right now I probably won't be able to post much. This makes me really really sad. Not only do I love working on posts in general, but I've been planning and saving up my new clothes and best outfits to shoot on this trip. Thankfully I still have my phone, so I'll be posting about our trip and tons of outfits on my Instagram if you'd like to follow along there. I'll get some posts up on blog as much as I can with borrowed computers and the best iphone snaps I can get. Hopefully, we'll have a better idea later today of when we'll be reimbursed for technology items.

Thank you for making this blog such a wonderful thing for me. I love blogging and pour my heart into it, but what makes this place especially great is how many wonderful people I've met through here and what a positive place it is. I get to share my love of styling and fashion, and get to create a positive environment for women whom I have found so much in commong with! Just bear with me as blog posts will be a little few and far between for awhile :)

Favorite At-Home Workouts
6.26.2015

Tank: Old Navy | Leggings: Nike (similar pair that I want!) | Pullover: Old Navy
Shoes: Nike (sizes available here & here; go down 1/2 size) | Sports Bra: Target (similar)

This is a different type of look for me to post, but I spend a lot of time in workout clothes! Usually when I get home from work I want to change into the comfiest clothes I can find + I try to workout at least 3 evenings a week. To be honest, I'm not really the type to dress up on a Saturday to go to Wal-mart either, so cute, easy workout clothes are a must for me!

As for actually working out, I'm trying to get back in the groove of it and figure out how to do it on my own. Mizzou has one of the best rec centers in the country, plus I walked across a huge campus multiple times a day, so I always stayed quite active in college. Last year I had a gym membership that included amazing classes, so those kept me motivated and in great shape. Then I got married and moved... I don't have a gym membership anymore and haven't found any classes here that I love so far, so I've been trying a lot of different workouts at home and figuring out a routine that works for me! For those of you who have to workout at home or simply prefer it (I do for the most part), I wanted to share some workouts I've been doing that are helping me tone back up and get more fit!

-Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide: If you don't follow Kayla on Instagram you definitely should. She's such a positive role model for health, and the makeovers from her plan are pretty amazing. I have her Bikini Body Guide, and the workouts are only 28 minutes, but they're pretty stinkin hard! However, they definitely work and I like that I can work hard and get in a good workout super quick. I don't 100% follow her plan because I like to mix up my workouts, but I've been doing about 2 of her workouts each week and they definitely make a big difference. [Helpful hint: Her book is actually an ebook that you download as a PDF, meaning that you can split the cost with a friend if you need to and simply email the PDF to the other person. I went in on it with a friend and it was the best $30 I've spent!]

-Tone It Up Youtube videos: I love Tone It Up workouts! Their videos are typically between 12 and 15 minutes long and span a lot of different workout types and areas to target, so they're great if you want to mix and match and really customize what you do that day. I will usually pick 2 or 3 videos and do them all in a row.

-Ballet Beautiful Classic 60 Minute Workout: This is totally the type of workout that looks and feels super easy at first but ends up totally killing you. I spent so many years dancing, that I love dance-inspired workouts. Mary Helen Bowers, the former professional ballerina who created this method, trains several Victoria's Secret Angels and her focus is to tone your muscles while making them longer and leaner (definitely my style).

All of these are 100% doable at home and require minimal equipment! I have a yoga mat and a couple of pairs of dumbbells, and I've been able to get by with those. That being said, I want to buy some more equipment soon (a kettle bell and foam roller are next on my list), but I've been able to workout very effectively with what little I have, so I promise you can too! Let me know if you have any questions about any of this :)

Vacation Packing List
6.25.2015

Cutoffs | Necklace | Sandals (just sold out, but love these) | Cotton Top

I can't believe we leave for California on Saturday! I am so stinkin excited. On our trip we'll be driving to San Francisco for my cousin's wedding, then driving down the coast to spend the rest of our time in southern California. Trey and I have never been to San Francisco before, so what recommendations do you have for us?? Places to eat, things to see and do? We'll get a couple of days there to explore! Most of the rest of our time will be in the San Diego area where my family used to live, and where our extended family still lives. It's definitely my happy place, so I can't wait to get back there. We'll be gone almost two weeks when you count the driving time, so I have a lot to pack and have been planning my packing list for a few weeks now. I'm one of those people that stresses the heck out right before a trip and goes into a packing frenzy, so I've found that if I start a packing list with outfit ideas ahead of time, it is extremely helpful for me. Here is the gist of my list...

-Versatile sundresses and rompers (I bought the exact black one above so I can mix and match it)
-A cross-body bag (or two) for exploring days, and a beach tote for shopping and of course the beach (I got this tote in white for $15)
-A couple of different hats to a) protect my face from the sun and b) pull outfits together and allow me to spend less time on my hair (always great, especially on vacation)
-Some fun and colorful jewelry that can add a statement to a simple little black or white dress (being able to take something from day-to-night is extra great on vacation)
-Comfy cute clothes for all of our road-tripping. Comfort is definitely the priority, but we'll be stopping to sight-see a bit so I don't want to look like the complete mess that I usually do. These shorts will be perfect.
-A couple of nicer dresses for the wedding and any dressier dinners that come up (I'm going to try to only bring one pair of heels to save room, but we shall see how that pans out)
-Two swimsuits and something I can use for a cute coverup
-A couple of new books to read on the beach and the drive (except that I get super carsick). Anything I should pick up to read?
-Tees, tanks and shorts mostly within one color family. I like to kind of plan a color palette for trips because then I can mix and match as I feel like on the trip. I hate when you plan a specific outfit before a trip and then hate it that day. So, I'm bringing a grouping of pieces that can all work together so I can be flexible!
-The perfect denim shorts are essential for a summer vacation in my opinion. I found these cutoffs from H&M (I got the light blue) and they are perfection for $20. They're high-waisted and not too too short, so they're exactly what I was looking for.
-A few pairs of sunglasses (I bought the blue ones above and they're so cute!) and a small handful of bracelets and earrings that I can mix and match
-A pair of jeans, a light sweater or two, and my denim jacket for chilly San Fran and even San Diego nights (I'm always surprised by how cool SD gets in the evenings)
-A few pairs of flat sandals and even some sneakers (I'm thinking my Converse and Nike Roshes). I just got the blush lace-up sandals in the collage but they just sold out! They're absolutely amazing though. I'll be stalking H&M's site so I can let you know when/if they come back in stock.

I think that's about it! I should really start packing tonight so I don't stress myself out tomorrow night, but we'll see how that goes ;) I'm the world's worst procrastinator!

Bohemian Print
6.24.2015

Dress: c/o Pleione at Nordstrom (comes in 4 colors! runs big-wearing size XS)
Sandals: DV by Dolce Vita (4 colors; go up 1/2 size) | Clutch: Francescas (similar here, here, here)
Earrings: Kendra Scott | Bracelet: Gorjana via Rocksbox (use code 'lovelenorexoxo' for a free month; similar bracelet)

I'm not a bright color person, but the colors and print of this dress are just so pretty (and it comes in 4 options)! I love that it can be worn as a pool/beach coverup, to work (I did as styled above), or even dressed up for a wedding or nice dinner. It's truly so versatile, so you get a lot of bang for your buck. I'm thinking this may be a good one to pack for our vacation!

Moss Green + Distressed Denim
6.23.2015

Top: LOFT (5 colors | wearing size XS) | Jeans: AG (went down 1 size)
Heels: Target (similar here, here) | Sunnies: Karen Walker | Clutch: Francescas (similar here, here, here)
Bracelet: Gorjana via Rocksbox (use code 'lovelenorexoxo' for free month | similar bracelet)
Earrings: c/o Mad Jewels | Lips: MAC 'vegas volt'

Do you ever have an outfit idea in your mind for ages before you actually own the pieces? That was 100% the case with this look. I've wanted to style it for a couple of months but finally found the right top + distressed jeans. Meaning, you finally don't have to read about my ridiculously long search for distressed denim anymore. **Collective sigh of relief**

This is my first pair of AG jeans and I'm in love. They have some pretty amazing stretch without stretching out (I did need to size down though). This is actually my first pair of high-end denim all-together, and I officially have the bug. If you use the cost-per-wear model, denim is definitely one of the best things to invest in because you'll wear a great pair of jeans hundreds of times, making your cost-per-wear extremely low. Shopbop has such a great selection of denim, including the brands Rag & Bone and J Brand that I really want to try as well. They also happen to have an extra 25% off sale styles today through Thursday (6/23-6/25) with the code '25MORE', so that's a pretty good deal to take advantage of!

Life Lately / Insta Roundup
6.18.2015

Sunnies | Top (4 colors + 40% off today!) | Lips ('hot gossip')

As soon as I discovered these sunnies online last week I ordered them immediately, and I never do that! I knew I would love them since they're oversized, but the unique peach color sold me. They come in 6 colors, and I will definitely be adding more to my collection!

The peony blooms were absolutely magnificent here this year, and as always, Trey's grandma had the best peonies in town in her garden. I couldn't stop staring at this gorgeous bouquet my mother-in-law and I put together.

I've been trying to get in a more consistent workout routine, especially with our upcoming vacation, so some new activewear + Nikes are definitely a huge motivator! I'll be doing a workout-themed post next week with a favorite workout look + some workouts I've been mixing and loving lately.

PS - this is my favorite tumbler!

Dress (on sale + still available in a medium. love these similar styles as well: 1, 2, 3)

A couple of weekends ago, my parents' country club held their annual member/guest golf tournament. Trey couldn't make both days due to his eternally crazy coaching schedule, so he played with my dad the first day, and I played with him the second. It was a blast! This was taken at the big dinner event on the first night. I grew up playing golf and swimming at there, so I absolutely love visiting and it's absolutely beautiful!

I kept both of these from a recent Rocksbox set and wear them all the time!

For those who aren't familiar, Rocksbox is a really fun jewelry subscription service. You subscribe and get boxes with 3 pieces of jewelry that you can wear as much as you want, send back when you want a new box, and keep any pieces you loved for 20% off! It's been a fantastic way for me to try new jewelry and designers, and to build up my jewelry collection at a discounted price. If you would like to try it out, you can try a free month subscription (no commitment) with the code 'LOVELENOREXOXO'!

Top (40% off today!) | Similar Shorts here + here | Hat | Sunnies

Some of my favorite summer pieces! I'm obsessed with crisp white + denim at the moment. I styled these pieces in an outfit post here.

A neighbor's knockout roses that I enjoyed walking and driving by every day...

Necklace | Lips ('vegas volt')

I absolutely love buying new lip colors (in fact, I've been buying a new lipstick every time I go to MAC - a super bad habit!), and wanted to pick up a couple of colors for summer. This is my favorite so far! It's MAC 'vegas volt' and is so fun + flattering (slightly more coral than pictured though).

-------

While I'm at it, I wanted to share a couple of great sales with you. I've been shopping at LOFT quite a bit lately, and they have 40% off everything online right now! Old Navy/Gap/Banana Republic all have 35% off your order through today (6/18) with the code 'BEST' (there are exclusions).

Thanks for reading and following along! For more, follow me on Instagram (@jacyoverstreet) and Snapchat (jacylenore)!

(the similar dresses I linked show up in navy below, but all come in white!)

Stripe Midi
6.17.2015

Dress: c/o June & Beyond Boutique (runs small-wearing size medium | found online here)
Hat: Target | Sandals: Steve Madden via Nordstrom (40% off!) | Lips: MAC 'hot gossip'
Bracelet: Gorjana via Rocksbox (use code 'lovelenorexoxo' for a free month! similar bracelet)

There's nothing I love more than an effortless summer dress, and this is definitely one of those. I rarely wear form-fitted pieces, but the midi length of this dress is super flattering, as is the low back. I've always been obsessed with tops and dresses that show off your shoulders or your back, and my two favorite formal dresses I've ever worn (both for high school homecoming dances) were backless. So, that feature is what immediately drew me to this dress! It's also the softest, comfiest fabric you've ever felt - so win, win. Mine is from June & Beyond Boutique, where you can order over the phone, over Instagram with your Paypal email, or through the House Account app when you search 'june and beyond boutique'. They have super affordable shipping and will ship out the day you order, so I highly recommend ordering from them! :)

We've been getting rain off and on all week, but we're expected to get torrential rain from a tropical storm starting today, so that always makes it interesting when trying to shoot outfits! Sometimes blogging in combination with working full time and midwest weather is quite the adventure :)

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding
6.16.2015

We are right in the middle of wedding season, and while I probably should have done this post a month ago, I would say most of us still have at least one wedding coming up! Trey, my family and I are traveling to San Francisco at the very end of this month for my cousin's wedding, and then my sister and I both have at least one more wedding each this summer, so we've been talking a lot about what we're going to wear! You know I love an excuse to dress up (especially now that I live in a smaller town), so picking outfits for weddings is so fun to me. Here are some general rules of thumb that I follow:
  • I personally avoid wearing white, or at least all-white, to weddings because I think you should let the bride completely stand out. I do think black is perfectly fine though, especially for formal weddings!
  • Don't wear anything too short/tight or low-cut. You want to be able to dance at the reception + no one wants some crazy wardrobe malfunction after having several glasses of wine ;)
  • I love my stilettos and do wear them to quite a few weddings, especially if they're indoors and also to weddings where I know there won't be a lot of dancing. However, for outdoor weddings and dancing, I love wearing wedges! Honestly, they're just so much more comfortable and there's a way greater chance you won't be leaving at the end of the night carrying your shoes (haha). A lot of wedges are more on the casual side, so metallic wedges are a good way to keep your outfit dressy.
  • Get a feel for the style of the wedding from invitation, bride, or mutual friends. That way you won't show up at a super formal wedding in a bohemian sundress or won't be overdressed at a more casual outdoor wedding.
  • Shorter, midi and maxi/floor length skirts and dresses are all a 'do'! Just gauge the dressiness of your dress for that particular wedding (and weather), and you can always dress up your look with accessories and jewelry. Dressier rompers and jumpsuits are also a yes in my book!
  • Don't be afraid to treat yourself to a new dress for a special wedding coming up, or re-work a dress you already own! In the case of my cousin's wedding, I decided I would rather use some extra money I had to buy some fun clothes I wanted for our trip, and re-wear a really pretty, formal dress I have in my closet but have only gotten to wear once.
  • Tailor your dress to the wedding with your accessories! I talk in at least one post per week about dressing things up and down, and shoes and bags are my number one way to do this. For example, I have a simple black midi dress that I can wear SO many ways... with flat sandals and a hat to the lake or a casual dinner, or with heels, a clutch and statement earrings for a nice wedding, event or date. So, if you can't spend the money on a new dress simply shop your own closet and get creative with accessories!
If you are in fact in the market for an outfit for an upcoming event or wedding, I've included some of my favorite finds that I think would be absolutely perfect (and re-wearable in the future)! The first place I look online when I need a dress for something is ASOS, because they have such unique pieces, a wide range of prices, and free shipping both ways! If I was going to buy a dress for the upcoming weddings it would 100% be this one. I'm obsessed.

All of these finds are under $100 except for one! Simply click to shop :)

Floral Romper
6.15.2015

Romper: BB Dakota from June & Beyond Boutique (wearing size S | online here & here)
Denim Jacket: LOFT (wearing XS) | Hat: Sole Society (sold out in black; nearly identical) | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff
Sandals: Steve Madden via Nordstrom (40% off) | Earrings: c/o Mad Jewels
Bracelet: Gorjana via Rocksbox (use code 'lovelenorexoxo' for a free month! | similar) | Lips: MAC 'Vegas Volt'

I know I don't wear a ton of color or prints, but isn't this romper just darling?? I love that it's a natural looking floral print, does that make sense? It's by BB Dakota and I recently realized how many of their pieces I'm loving lately (this romper definitely included!). There's a great selection at Shopbop that I've been browsing lately! I mentioned this in my June Wish List post, but I'm back in love with rompers, and love how easy they make it to get dressed. I also think they look adorable with a little denim or cargo jacket, or long cardigan layered over the top, which means they will be perfect for our upcoming California trip!

Speaking of denim jackets... I recently purchased this jacket from LOFT and it's the perfect denim jacket! I've been looking for the right fit and comfort level for awhile, and this was the perfect match. The torso is slimming, and the sleeves have just the right amount of stretch so that you're still comfortable and can actually move (seriously, why are most denim jackets so freaking stiff?!).

Completely unrelated, but how was your weekend?? Mine was different from usual, but great. If you follow me on Snapchat (jacylenore - add me!) you saw a little bit behind the scenes, but my sister turned 21 last week, so we celebrated on Friday night and then spent Saturday relaxing (err, recovering) and doing a little shopping. So, we got in lots of great sister time! I also snapchatted that I took Russell and Lulu (my dogs, but basically children) to stay at my parents' with me! It's always a little chaotic, but my dad took them on a bunch of walks so they had a blast and also got nice and tired :)

Dressed Down Blazer / Dressed Up Denim
6.11.2015

Blazer: H&M | Tank: J.Crew Factory | Shorts: June & Beyond Boutique (just $32! order over IG or phone w/ Paypal)
Heels: Target (similar here, here) | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Sunnies: Karen Walker
Bracelet: Gorjana via Rocksbox (similar | use code 'lovelenorexoxo' for a free month of Rocksbox!)
Earrings: Kendra Scott | Lips: BareMinerals 'Be Free'

I'm such a fan of unexpected pairings, like something classic and dressy paired with something more casual and edgy --> like a blazer with distressed shorts. I like to style this sort of juxtaposition as much as possible, so now I just need somewhere to wear this! ;)

Also, totally unrelated, but... I need a volumizing mascara that doesn't flake off! I love the look of the drugstore mascara I use when I put it on, but by the afternoon I have little black flakes under my eyes. Let me know what works for you! I don't mind jumping up to a nicer brand/higher price point.

June Wish List
6.09.2015

Jeans | Scarf (50% off!) | Romper (additional prints here)

Somehow it's already time for another monthly wish list post! I'll share a dedicated post on my shopping strategies sometime soon, but I am such a planner when it comes to shopping! I plan out what I'm going to buy each month based on my budget and things I need and want (I try to balance the two). I love doing these posts because they're a great format to show things I've recently purchased, am about to buy, or am simply loving! I can always see themes emerge from these posts and the ones this month are: denim + white, and soft neutrals with subtle prints and details.

Denim
Most of you know that I've been on the hunt for the perfect distressed skinny jeans for ages. I finally the great pair pictured above and they'll be on the blog soon (I needed to exchange for a smaller size, hence the delay on an outfit post)! I've also tried a bunch of denim jackets the last few months, all trying to stay under the J.Crew price tag but having the same look. I just purchased this jacket from LOFT and absolutely love it! It's extremely flattering, and has some stretch so you don't feel like you're stuck in a straightjacket. The only piece left: finding the perfect cutoff shorts! I want a higher-waisted pair that has a bit of an inseam (no booty please). I've found a couple of ideal pairs at a higher price point (like these), but nothing at a lower price point yet. The hunt continues...

Shoes
I'm actually trying my hardest not to buy any shoes this month (quite a difficult task). However if I were to buy some, I would buy some leather peep-toe mules and/or some chic lace-up sandals.

Rompers, Coverups, etc.
I used to wear rompers all the time before they were super mainstream, and then haven't bought many the past few years. But, I'm loving them again and am looking for a couple of effortless rompers for our upcoming vacation! I love this super affordable H&M option in both the solid black and black/white print! I've also been casually looking for some coverup options! This little tassel dress would be adorable over a bikini, and I'm loving the idea of beach/lounge pants.

Other Accessories
I've already made the above scarf mine and it's fantastic. So soft and light with subtle tassel details and an interesting print - making it the perfect summer scarf! I've been trying to decide on a new straw beach/pool bag (my current pool bag is old and embarrassing - ha), and naturally fell in love with this one and this one, which are both out of the budget right now. I actually really love this simple woven bag from H&M (and the $15 price tag), so I think I'm going to pull the trigger! Jewelry-wise... I discovered The Fifth Watches recently, and am obsessing over this blush + rose gold watch on a daily basis. I will make it mine by the fall. I also discovered Lydell NYC last week, and am loving their jewels! This stone bracelet is on its way to me and I can't wait to wear it!

What's on your wish list this month??

Jacy
