Back to School
8.25.2014

Happy Monday! I graduated from college a little over a year ago, but now that I work for a school district (and my hubby does too), our lives are both back on a school year calendar. I think from being in school virtually my entire life so far, I'm engrained to think of years on a school year basis rather than a calendar year basis! All of that being said...

I love the excitement of the back to school season! I always looked forward to my new college classes, and now working in education, it's absolutely amazing to see how excited all of the students are! And in true form, I love the style component of it all too... It's an exciting time of year style-wise with that summer-to-fall transition approaching, and I always love the little 'extras' too like planners, coffee mugs and desk accessories.

patterned tote | leather-band watch | floral phone case
gold-foil notebooks | fun coffee mug | portable phone charger
lucite file holder | polka dot agenda | work it print
camo flats | wool panama hat

- A large, chic tote is essential for class! I carried a Vera Bradley one in college -

- I found a watch to be so handy (and an easy-cute accessory) throughout school -

- I love to switch out my phone case a couple of times a year & I'm eyeing this one -

- Even post-graduation, I like to carry a smaller notebook with me everywhere -

- A cute travel mug, water bottle or tumbler is perfect for staying hydrated all day -

- I wish I had owned this portable charger in college! -

- The older I get, the more papers I seem to accumulate, so I like storing mine in a very similar lucite file holder from Target (recent in-store find) -

- I'm old school and love using a physical planner. I've had a Kate Spade agenda on my wish list for ages - are they worth it?? -

- I love to have cute + inspirational prints hung and placed around my desk area -

- Ballet flats & loafers are your best friend for looking cute in comfort while walking around campus -

- I'm dying to own a wool hat this fall, and this one is perfect for those low messy bun days -

Thanks for reading! I hope you're enjoying the back to school season as well :)

Crop Top + Maxi Skirt
8.21.2014

Crop top: Necessary Clothing | Skirt: H&M in-store (similar here and here + lots more below)
Wedges: DV by Dolce Vita (size up 1/2 size for this brand) | Bag: Old Navy
Bracelets: F21 + Lily and Laura | Lipstick: Revlon ('Smitten')

Today I'm sharing an outfit I wore in Philly to the John Legend concert we attended on our honeymoon - so there are some pretty special memories tied to this outfit! I found this skirt in an NYC H&M and knew it would be perfect for the concert and so fun as a vacation look. I've always had a somewhat photographic memory when it comes to clothes... My family has always laughed because I can usually remember exactly what I was wearing for all of these different events growing up (and sometimes even everyday things as a kid and teen).

This was the most incredible concert I've ever been to (and I've been to some pretty great ones). I already loved John Legend and a lot of his music, and knew he was insanely talented at both vocals and piano, but wow. The man gave a flawless performance. I walked down the aisle to 'All of Me' (I know it's cliche and overplayed now, but we both loved the song the week his album came out), so hearing him perform it on our honeymoon will always be a very special memory to me.

Honeymoon Photo Diary | NYC
8.18.2014

Happy Monday!
I'm excited to share some photos from our trip to New York City with you today (a mix of iPhone and camera snaps)! We spent the majority of our honeymoon in NYC and we both absolutely loved it. In fact, I've already started a list of things I want to do the next time we make it up there! Make sure to read amongst the photos and at the bottom of my post for some of our favorite things we did and places we ate :)

Brooklyn
We spent an entire day touring Brooklyn and we both agreed it was our favorite day in NY! We first hung out in the Williamsburg neighborhood, which is very artsy and eclectic with lots of boutiques, vintage stores and darling restaurants.

Then we made our way to the DUMBO area by the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. MY FAVORITE! Amazing shops, restaurants, cobblestone streets, and a beautiful boardwalk. I didn't want to leave..... But we finished our afternoon by walking back to the city over the Brooklyn Bridge, which is crowded, but fun.

We took an Uber (highly recommend) over to Red Hook to try an awesome bar called Brooklyn Ice House. I loved the backyard patio area and the 2 for $5 pulled pork sliders!

Central Park

I gushed a bit about Central Park in a recent outfit post, but I'm about to again. I could not believe how gorgeous it is!! It's a little slice of peace and heaven in the middle of a bustling city. We went to the park two different times and didn't even come close to seeing it all (probably only half or less). I highly recommend walking the beautiful pathways and trails, sitting by the lakes and enjoying amazing skyline views from a serene spot.

Assorted Snaps

We spent a lot of time on our trip just walking all over the city and absorbing the incredible mix of cultures there. I loved all of the architecture as well. 5th Avenue was another slice of heaven. While I couldn't come close to affording many of the stores there, I so enjoyed the gorgeous buildings, streets, stores and just soaking up the amazing atmosphere there!

5th Avenue - AKA my 'home'

The 9/11 Memorial was breathtaking. We will definitely be returning when they finish more of the World Trade Center construction.

We also attended a Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester City that was at Yankee Stadium! We've recently fallen in love with soccer, and it was awesome to see such a legendary stadium! It was such a fun night.

Top of the Rock

Touring Rockefeller Center was one of the more 'touristy' things we did, but we were both so glad we did! It was interesting to learn that Rock Center is actually made up of 19 buildings, and the history and artwork in the buildings was fantastic. We viewed the city from the Top of the Rock at sunset and lingered until dark and it was one of my favorite moments of the trip. I walked away with some stunning photos to remember it with too :) I liked the Top of the Rock as opposed to the Empire State Building because we could see the Empire State Building, and it was so pretty!

Some restaurants we enjoyed while there...

- The Ainsworth. Gorgeous decor (a glam sports bar in a way - wood, chandeliers & tvs), fabulous drinks & amazing food (try the Hanger Steak Burger) in Chelsea. -

-Friedman's. We had an awesome lunch here and both enjoyed the Fish Tacos and Blueberry Lemonade. -

- One Star Bar. A great mellow bar in Chelsea for end-of-the-day drinks that won't break the bank. -

- Dos Toros Taqueria. A California-authentic taco shop in Williamsburg that's reminiscent of Chipotle but even better. -

- Brooklyn Ice House. This was a bit of drive in Red Hook so we took an Uber, but they had cheap drinks and delicious 2/$5 pulled pork sliders. -

- Kobeyaki. Call us crazy but we ate here (the Chelsea location) twice! It was affordable and so stinkin' good. The Tempura Sweet Potato Fries are one of my favorite things I've ever eaten and their sauces were to-die-for. We also had the Kobe Beef Burger, and Grilled Chicken Bowl with udon noodles. Oh, and it's super affordable! -

- Bravo Pizza. We grabbed this randomly on the way to the soccer game and it was awesome! I knew we needed some authentic NYC pizza while we were there and this was delicious. You pay by the slice, but they're big and we walked out of there spending about $20 for 4 slices and two drinks. -

- Broadway Bites. This was probably my favorite dining experience! It's "a seasonal culinary pop-up market in Greeley Square Park." We caught it on our last night in NYC and on its last night this run, and we got to sample some absolutely delicious restaurants from all over NYC! Some standouts we sampled (that are going on our list for our next visit) were Brooklyn Taco, Mighty Balls (yes, for real), and Gelato Ti Amo. -

Other things...

- We stayed at the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Chelsea and had a great experience there! We honestly weren't at the hotel much, but the central location was great, and it was very modern and nice! -

- The High Line was one of my favorite things in NYC. "The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side." In two words: artistic and STUNNING. This is the perfect date night location... Beautiful views of the city from an elevated standpoint, lovely landscaping and walkways, and lots of amazing seating. We wanted to go back here during the daytime so badly, but unfortunately we ran out of time. This is high on my list of places to return! -

----------------

I hope you enjoyed this!! I know it was lengthy, but this was as much as I could narrow down my photos, and I wanted to share some other tidbits from our time there in case anyone is traveling there soon.

Have a wonderful week, and thanks for reading!

Pom Pom Shorts
8.14.2014

Shorts: Trinkets Boutique (found HERE (mine are a medium)+ love these, these + more options below)
Tank: J. Crew Factory (one of my favorite & most versatile pieces)
Sandals: DV by Dolce Vita (size up 1/2 size) | Bag: Old Navy
Watch: Fossil | Bracelets: Forever 21 + Lily and Laura | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

It's been a really busy week on our end because school started and football season is starting up too (I do PR for our town's school district & my hubby teaches and coaches here). We've been working long days into the evenings, but it's been a really rewarding week to see all of the excited kids and to have school activities kicking in.

This was one of my favorite outfits from our honeymoon, so I couldn't wait to show it to you on here! I wore it for a day of shopping and sightseeing in NYC and it was a super fun outfit but also really comfy! I'm loving this trend for shorts that are fun and cute but are as comfortable as Nike or PJ shorts (score!). I found the exact pair I'm wearing online here and have linked to lots of other cute versions both above and below!
