how to wear booties
10.30.2013

I recently had a few friends ask me to do a post showing different ways to wear ankle boots/booties! As I'm sure you've noticed, I'm a huge fan of these types of shoes and have at least 5 pairs (eek!). Here are some ways I've worn them, as well as some great inspiration I've found!

How to Wear Booties

My favorite way to wear my booties is to either cuff or roll my jeans! The outfit on the left is from this year & the one on the right is from last winter...and this year I've been preferring to cuff my skinnies just once because the look is just a little more sleek. No matter which one you prefer, I wanted to share this tip because I've found it lengthens my legs and makes them appear thinner (always a good feeling, right?)! The ankle is the thinnest part of the leg, so it helps to show a tiny bit of skin there to draw the eye down the leg. I also don't like the kankle look that can happen if your jeans bunch around your booties.

In the outfit on the right (hot pink top), my booties were pretty tall so I went ahead and tucked my skinny jeans all the way in. There's a little bit of bunching here, but if you wear leggings or really fitted jeans/jeggings then it can totally work!

Beyond skinny jeans, leggings, etc. I love wearing my booties with skirts and dresses! People tend to dress very casually in Missouri, so sometimes dresses and skirts can feel a bit overdone (sad, but true). So, booties are an awesome way to keep your skirt or dress feeling laid back and casual + I always love having an unexpected element to my outfit.

My biggest source of style inspiration comes from other bloggers! I love getting new outfit ideas from them, and also looking at outfits with pieces I don't own. Here are some of my favorite ankle boot looks:

Both of these fabulous bloggers have amazing, thin legs (so jealous), which makes it even easier to pull off the tucked in look! The style note to take away though is that both of their pants are quite fitted around the ankle, which prevents too much bunching!

I love how Rachel of Pink Peonies styled her chic ankle booties with little socks! This adds extra interest and color to her look, and is so unique. Sydney of The Daybook rolled up her skinny jeans and it looks adorable.

I also found this awesome guide with 10 ways to wear ankle boots! Her outfit ideas are great and she gives some really good written tips as well.

What's your favorite way to wear your booties?

October Remix: Chambray Shirt {3 + recap}
10.28.2013

Shirt: Forever 21 (similar herehere and here) | Jeans: Forever 21
Heels: Steve Madden | Bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction - gift from a friend
Necklace: J. Crew Factory (on sale!)| Bracelet: vintage | Lipstick: Revlon

Somehow another month has already gone by, which means it's time for me to wrap up my October Remix series. This month I styled my trusty chambray shirt 3 different ways! Some months I have trouble finding 3 relatively unique ways to wear something, but this month was just the opposite. I had so many more ideas of how to wear this shirt! Needless to say, I will probably be wearing it many more times on here in the coming months (hope you're not sick of chambray yet haha).

Now for a little recap! Here are the 3 ways I styled my chambray shirt this month:

Sweater: Rodi Boutique (online store coming soon) (similar sweaters here and here) | Skinnies: Rodi Boutique (similar)
Boots: Antonio Melani from Dillards (similar) | Purse: Tobi (here in other colors | Love this black & gold crossbody purse)
Rings: Rodi and Gorjana & Griffin c/o Swank Boutique | Lipstick: Revlon

I'm wearing black & gold this week in honor of Mizzou (University of Missouri - Columbia) Homecoming! I graduated from Mizzou in May, so this will be my first homecoming as an alumni. I can't wait to be reunited with some of my best friends and to watch my #5 Tigers take on S. Carolina!

I hope you all are having a great week! Needless to say I'm glad it's Friday Eve ;)

simple can be chic
10.22.2013

 Top: Forever 21 | Jeans: Forever 21
Flats: Target | Bag: Phillip Lim for Target (sold out)
Bracelets: Asos, F21, vintage (great gold layering bracelets here and here) | Lipstick: bareMinerals

Not only can simple be chic, but cheap can be chic too! "Chic" is of course a completely subjective descriptor, and to you this outfit may seem like a complete snooze fest. But I felt quite chic in this look! Of course, I think a bit of leopard adds a touch of chic to any outfit though! And I love wearing gold, so the studded sleeves of this top are a great little bonus. Overall though, this outfit is incredible affordable (the top and jeans are both $11 or less right now). Check out the links above or below for prices! I highly recommend these flats for an unbeatable $20.

PS ~ It's officially homecoming week at Mizzou (my alma mater), so I had to break out a bit of black and gold in this casual outfit. Later this week I'll be styling a homecoming look, so I guess I'd might as well call it black + gold week on the blog!

October Wish List
10.21.2013

Hello friends! I hope all of you had a wonderful, relaxing weekend! I got to go back to my alma mater, Mizzou, for their game against Florida on Saturday - we won & are now #5 in the country! I'm a huge sports fan so I'm extremely excited about this.

Now onto fall shopping - my favorite! In my shopping picks this month I included some of my favorite new trends: over-the-knee boots (how amazing are the Sole Society pair above?), window pane prints, and color-blocked flats. Other fall favorites include faux fur, utility jackets and leopard of course.
I ordered the Warby Parker glasses last week and can't wait to get them! I'm also planning to order the suede booties in black and to pick up the flats in leopard & black, which I found in-store at Charlotte Russe (I know, right?). If I have money leftover in my shopping budget these next couple of weeks I'll be purchasing as much as I can from my wish list though (starting with the fur vest & black satchel)!

Happy shopping!

Dress: Rodi Boutique (similar here and here) | Booties: Target
Scarf: Aldo (old | similar) | Bracelet: StyleLately (similar here and here)

I absolutely love this little drop-waist dress I bought recently at a local store called Rodi Boutique! I love that it can work for summer or fall, and I've already worn it with a jacket and loved the look. Rodi will have an online store launched soon and I can't wait to get more stuff from there and to be able to link to things for you guys too!

Hope you've all had a great week! It's almost the weekend :)

October Remix: Chambray Shirt {2}
10.15.2013

Shirt: Forever 21 (similar here, here and here) | Skirt: H&M (old | some of my favorite fall skirts below)
Booties: Target | Bag: Phillip Lim for Target (sold out)
Bracelets: F21 and vintage (great gold layering bracelets here and here)

This is my second chambray shirt look of the month! If you missed the first post or need a refresher, you can find it here! You already know how much I love wearing skirts with booties for fall days that aren't too cold, so adding a staple chambray shirt to the mix makes for the perfect fall outfit in my book. Because chambray/denim shirts go with so much anyways, you can easily style them with lots of different skirts or even tie them over dresses!

wear pink | breast cancer awareness month
10.14.2013

As I'm sure most of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! I've seen close family friends, and friends' loved ones, fight this horrible disease and I hope and pray that they find a cure soon. That being said, I hope that Breast Cancer Awareness Month continually brings awareness to the fight against all cancers! I've had family members fight other forms of cancer, and lost my grandmother to Pancreatic cancer, so I lend my support to the eradication of all cancers. It's so important to fight to find a cure through cancer research, and also to support those fighting the disease by helping out with treatment.

That being said, I love that Breast Cancer Awareness Month uses pink to bring awareness in a fun and optimistic way! The more awareness we can spread, the better :) Conveniently, pink is definitely having a moment in the fashion world this fall and winter and I love it. Here are some of my favorite pink shopping finds:

basics
10.11.2013

 Top: Old Navy (in-store - recent | similar) | Jeans: Forever 21
Booties: Target | Bag: Phillip Lim for Target (sold out)
Bracelets: F21 & vintage (similar) | Gold initial rings: Gorjana & Griffin

Happy Friday and Happy Weekend! It's glorious, isn't it? Today's post features some basics that I've been wearing for weekend (and work) casual. Tan booties and dark skinnies jeans are of course major staples in my book, and then a neutral, relaxed top like this one is super easy to throw on and layer over!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I have no plans this weekend and am so happy about that! I need some lazy time :)

dressed up stripes
10.09.2013

Top: c/o C.C. Lake | Skirt: Francesca's Collections (sold out online - get the look here and here)
Heels: Target (sold out, but just like the Steve Madden ones on sale here!)
Bangle: vintage | Lipstick: Red Apple Lipstick in Coral Crush

First of all, I want to say a big thank you to the online shop C.C. Lake for sending me this adorable striped top! I've been wanting to add more stripes to my wardrobe, and this top will be fun to stye different ways. I've also been dying to find more ways to wear my cream skater/a-line skirt, so I jumped at this opportunity!

Happy hump day! We're halfway to Friday ;)

LBD
10.06.2013

Dress: Asos (on sale!) | Heels: Target
Clutch: vintage (love this one) | Bracelet: freshwater pearls - gift
Earrings: Francesca's

This is just a simple dressy look I put together with my new LBD from Asos! It's on sale for only $23, so snatch it up ladies! Sometimes it's nice to have a dress that flows away from the body a bit...ya know what I mean?

I took a few days off from posting because I got to be a part of my best friend's wedding! It's was an absolutely beautiful ceremony, and Haley looked so incredibly stunning. She married a fantastic guy named Cameron, who is a marine officer, and they are truly a perfect match. After having a long distance relationship for so long I'm so happy that they'll finally be together, even if it means she is now moving to North Carolina (so bittersweet).

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!
